Mesoporous photocatalytic titanium dioxide films with periodic structures were prepared by molding from two-dimensionally ordered arrays of monodisperse SiO2 particles. The morphology of the porous structures in these films was dependent upon the annealing temperature. The photocatalytic activity of the films was confirmed, as evidenced by the photodeposition of silver on the textured film surfaces. Attachment of the free-standing films to rigid supports allowed us to locate specific microscopic

Abstract Nanoporous, nanostructured semiconducting films of photocatalytic titanium dioxide (TiO2) were fabricated by molding from two-dimensionally ordered arrays. We were able to control the structures of the periodic surfaces by varying the annealing temperature of the films.
Light propagation in composite two-dimensional spherical arrays in which mixtures of fluorescent and nonfluorescent polystyrene latex particles (3, 1, 0.5 μm) are packed in a highly dense, highly oriented manner on a solid surface was observed by use of fluorescence microscopy and phase-contrast microscopy. In addition, by means of through-focusing, we were able to determine directly the stacking mode, e.g., face-centered-cubic packing or hexagonal close packing, in up to three layers. The propa
“Sensitized thermal cells” do not rely on the Seebeck effect and do not require a temperature difference.
A sensitized thermal cell makes it possible to obtain stable electric power by only burying the cell in a heat source and turning a switch on and off.
The aim of this study was to evaluate the efficacy of the auditory evoked potential (AEP) index (aepEX) as an assessment tool for hypnosis during induction of various anesthetic drugs, and to compare its performance to that of the bispectral index (BIS). A total of 45 cases were divided into three groups based on the drugs used for anesthesia. Before anesthetic induction, BIS and AEP monitors were initiated. Anesthesia was induced through intravenous injection (IV) as follows: MP (n = 15) group,
Efficient and low-cost thermal energy-harvesting systems are needed to solve the global energy problem. Here, we suggest a new energy conversion system for generating electric power from heat without a cooling element. This device is a sensitized thermal cell (STC) based on a dye-sensitized solar cell. A semiconductor is used instead of the dye, and as a result, this system can work by using heat instead of light. To prove the efficacy of this system, we focused on an organic perovskite. This ma

Sensitized thermal cells (STCs) are a new green power generation system operated by heating without a cooling temperature part. Here, we suggest Ag2S-sensitized thermal cells working at a low temperature (below 200 °C) and have a stylish sheet form. TiO2 was used for the electron transport layer, and ferrocene/ferricinium ions dissolved in dimethyl sulfoxide was selected for the redox couple ions. The Ag2S STCs generated power under light irradiation and at 90 °C in the dark. Electrochemical mea
Freestanding monolayers of two-dimensional particle arrays, in which fine particles are two-dimensionally self-assembled in a highly oriented manner, was prepared to examine the influence of substrate on the transmission spectra of 2D particle array; as a result, the spectrum of the freestanding 2D particle array has less noise than that of the 2D particle array on the substrate, and besides, agree with the theoretical result particularly in the near-field discussion.
