Seok Jong Chung 교수의 연구실은 파킨슨병에서 인지기능 저하와 운동장애의 진행을 예측할 수 있는 생물학적 지표를 규명하는 데 초점을 맞추고 있습니다. 특히, 뇌혈관 변화, 대사적 손상, 인지·운동 예측 능력 등 다양한 생체지표를 기반으로 조기 파킨슨병 환자의 임상적 예후를 분석합니다. 연구는 신경영상, 인지평가, 요인분석 기반의 프로파일링을 통해 개인별로 다르게 나타나는 질환 경과를 정량적으로 해석하는 데 기여하고 있습니다.

This study aimed to investigate the cortical neural correlates of dementia conversion in Parkinson's disease with mild cognitive impairment (PD-MCI). We classified 112 patients with drug-naïve early stage PD meeting criteria for PD-MCI into either PD with dementia (PDD) converters (n = 34) or nonconverters (n = 78), depending on whether they developed dementia within 4 years of PD diagnosis. The concept of cognitive reserve (CR) in Alzheimer's disease (AD) explains the differences between individuals in their susceptibility to AD-related pathologies. These findings suggested that the patterns of striatal dopaminergic denervation, which were estimated by the equation derived from the factor analysis, have a prognostic implication in patients with early-stage PD.
These findings suggest that these factor analysis-derived cognitive profiles can be used to predict dementia conversion in early-stage PD. In addition, frontal/executive dysfunction contributes most to the occurrence of dementia in PD.
