Fabrication of three-dimensional (3D) scaffolds with appropriate mechanical properties and desired architecture for promoting cell growth and new tissue formation is one of the most important efforts in tissue engineering field. Scaffolds fabricated from bioactive ceramic materials such as hydroxyapatite and tricalcium phosphate show promise because of their biological ability to support bone tissue regeneration. However, the use of ceramics as scaffold materials is limited because of their inhe
The metal-induced self-assembly of a resorcin[4]arene derivative 1 that has four pyridine units as pendent groups and two equivalents of [M(dppp)(OTf)(2)] (M=Pd, Pt) results in a dynamic equilibrium between an interclipped supramolecular capsule 3 and an intraclipped bowl 4 in nitromethane, although the interclipped capsule 3 is formed as a sole adduct in chloroform/methanol and the intraclipped bowl 4 is formed exclusively in an aqueous phase. This demonstrates how metal-induced self-assembly c
Nanoscale molecular capsules have been prepared by self-assembly of resorcin[4]-arene derivatives and Pd(II) or Pt(II) complexes; the positively charged N-alkylpyridinium derivatives are encapsulated inside capsules due to strong cation-pi interactions.
The classical master sintering curve (MSC) is derived from empirical sintering model and is applicable over a range of heating rates and temperatures. For simplicity, the MSC approach was modified by assuming one dominant densification mechanism to evaluate and predict densification response. However, the concept of MSC can be extended well beyond the original formulation or the subsequent simplifications. To this effect, generalized formulations are proposed based on several constitutive equati
This study investigated the effects of adding mature compost (MC) and vermicompost (VC) on controlling gas emissions and compost quality during food waste (FW) composting. In addition to a control treatment (only food waste), four treatments were designed to mix the initial FW with varying rates of MC and VC (5.0% and 7.5%). The composting process was monitored for 84 days. Results indicate that the addition of MC and VC resulted in higher temperature, prolonged the thermophilic stage and reduce
We review the fundamental modeling and numerical simulation for a prediction of fiber orientation during injection molding process of polymer composite. In general, the simulation of fiber orientation involves coupled analysis of flow, temperature, moving free surface, and fiber kinematics. For the governing equation of the flow, Hele‐Shaw flow model along with the generalized Newtonian constitutive model has been widely used. The kinematics of a group of fibers is described in terms of the seco
