홍성두 교수의 연구실은 항암제 개발을 중심으로, 특히 노르카나타리딘(Norcantharidin, NCTD)을 활용한 다양한 암세포에 대한 Apoptosis 유도 및 전이 억제 메커니즘을 규명하는 데 초점을 맞추고 있습니다. 구강 평행세포암과 무코에피더moid암을 대상으로 세포 및 생체내 모델을 활용한 분자생물학적 분석을 수행하며, 암의 침습성과 전이 메커니즘을 억제하는 데 기여할 수 있는 타겟 기반 약물 개발을 추구하고 있습니다. 특히 FAK 경로를 타겟으로 한 약물의 작용 기전과의 비교 연구를 통해 NCTD의 임상적 응용 가능성을 탐색하고 있습니다.
