The cellular and molecular mechanisms underlying the development and maintenance of dendritic spines are not fully understood. ADP-ribosylation factor 6 (ARF6) is a small GTPase known to regulate actin remodeling and membrane traffic. Here, we report involvement of ARF6 and exchange factor for ARF6 (EFA6A) in the regulation of spine development and maintenance. An active form of ARF6 promotes the formation of dendritic spines at the expense of filopodia. EFA6A promotes spine formation in an ARF6
Arthroscopic microfracture showed good functional outcomes and improved quality of life with maintenance of satisfactory outcomes at a mean follow-up of 6.7 years. Therefore, arthroscopic microfracture seems to be reliable as a first-line treatment for OLT at an intermediate-term follow-up.
C. elegans undergoes periods of behavioral quiescence during larval molts (termed lethargus) and as adults. Little is known about the circuit mechanisms that establish these quiescent states. Lethargus and adult locomotion quiescence is dramatically reduced in mutants lacking the neuropeptide receptor NPR-1. Here, we show that the aroused locomotion of npr-1 mutants results from the exaggerated activity in multiple classes of sensory neurons, including nociceptive (ASH), touch sensitive (ALM and
Quantitative real-time PCR (qRT-PCR) is widely used to analyze the expression profiles of the genes of interest. In order to obtain accurate quantification data, normalization by using reliable internal control genes is essential. In this study, we evaluated the stability and applicability of eight internal control gene candidates for analyzing gene expression during fruit development in dwarf tomato cultivar Micro-Tom. We collected seventeen different samples from flowers and fruits at differen
Several sinogram inpainting based metal artifact reduction (MAR) methods have been proposed to reduce metal artifact in CT imaging. The sinogram inpainting method treats metal trace regions as missing data and estimates the missing information. However, a general assumption with these methods is that data truncation does not occur and that all metal objects still reside within the field-of-view (FOV). These assumptions are usually violated when the FOV is smaller than the object. Thus, existing
Abstract To reduce metal artifacts, several sinogram inpainting-based metal artifact reduction (MAR) methods have been proposed where projection data within the metal trace region of the sinogram are treated as missing and subsequently estimated. However, these methods generally assume data truncation does not occur and all metal objects reside inside the field-of-view (FOV). For small FOV imaging, these assumptions are violated, and thus existing inpainting-based MAR methods would not be effect
Abstract Human hair is a hierarchical biomaterial whose mechanical performance depends on its cuticle integrity and keratin‐based matrix. However, oxidative dyeing can compromise these nano‐architectures. In this study, we employed scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and atomic force microscopy (AFM) with PinPoint nanomechanical mapping to investigate structural and mechanical changes induced by oxidative dyeing. SEM revealed progressive cuticle degradation—lifting, fraying, and intercellular voi
This paper presents a design methodology for generalized switched-capacitor (SC) converter topologies, structured around an explicit equation-based representation for topological circuit models. The proposed topology equations incorporate key principles for SC converter designs, including Kirchhoff’s voltage law (KVL), Kirchhoff’s current law (KCL) and charge balance. Specific rules and design constraints for SC converter topology generation are detailed in this paper. The optimization process a
