Genetic parameters were estimated for six reproductive traits related to farrowing events in Landrace and Large White pigs; total number born (TNB), number born alive (NBA), number stillborn (NSB), total litter weight at birth (LWB), mean litter weight at birth (MWB), and gestation length (GL). We analyzed 62,534 farrowing records for 10,637 Landrace dams and 49,817 farrowing records for 8,649 Large White dams. Estimated heritabilities of TNB, NBA, NSB, LWB, MWB, and GL by single-trait repeatabi
The Japanese Black is likely to be in a breed group with a relatively high extent of whole genome LD. The results indicated that the degree of marbling is controlled by only QTLs with relatively small effects, compared with carcass weight, and that using at least 4,000 equally-spaced SNPs, there is a possibility of ranking animals genetically for these carcass traits in this breed.
We investigated maternal effect on nine body measurement traits (body height, body length, front width (FW), chest width (CW), hind width (HW), chest depth, chest girth (CHG), front cannon circumference (FCC) and rear cannon circumference (RCC)) measured at the end of performance testing and five meat production traits (ages at the start and end of performance testing (D30 and D105), average daily gain (ADG), backfat thickness and loin muscle area) in purebred Duroc pigs. Genetic parameters for
Using target and reference fattened steer populations, the performance of genotype imputation using lower-density marker panels in Japanese Black cattle was evaluated. Population imputation was performed using BEAGLE software. Genotype information for approximately 40,000 single nucleotide polymorphism (SNP) markers by Illumina BovineSNP50 BeadChip was available, and imputation accuracy was assessed based on the average concordance rates of the genotypes, varying equally spaced SNP densities, an
We estimated genetic parameters for the calving interval of Japanese Black cows using a random regression model and a repeatability model. We analyzed 92,019 calving interval records of 36,178 cows. Pedigree data covered 390,263 individuals. Age of cow at previous calving for each record ranged from 18 to 120 months. We used up to the second-order Legendre polynomials based on age at previous calving as sub-models for random regression analysis, and assumed a constant error variance across ages.
The influence of genotype imputation using low-density single nucleotide polymorphism (SNP) marker subsets on the genomic relationship matrix (G matrix), genetic variance explained, and genomic prediction (GP) was investigated for carcass weight and marbling score in Japanese Black fattened steers, using genotype data of approximately 40,000 SNPs. Genotypes were imputed using equally spaced SNP subsets of different densities. Two different linear models were used. The first (model 1) incorporate
Heritabilities of litter size traits at birth (total number born (TNB), number born alive (NBA), and number still born (NSB)) and their genetic correlations with body measurement (body height, body length, front width (FW), chest width (CW), hind width, chest depth, chest girth, front cannon circumference, and rear cannon circumference) and production traits (ages at the start and end of performance testing (D30 and D105), average daily gain (ADG), backfat thickness, and loin muscle area) in pur
We estimated heritabilities of semen production traits and their genetic correlations with litter traits and pork production traits in purebred Duroc pigs. Semen production traits were semen volume, sperm concentration, proportion of morphologically normal sperms, total number of sperm, and total number of morphologically normal sperm. Litter traits at farrowing were total number born, number born alive, number stillborn, total litter weight at birth, mean litter weight at birth, and piglet surv
Genomic prediction (GP) of breeding values using single nucleotide polymorphism (SNP) markers can be conducted even when pedigree information is unavailable, providing phenotypes are known and marker data are provided. While use of high-density SNP markers is desirable for accurate GP, lower-density SNPs can perform well in some situations. In the present study, GP was performed for carcass weight and marbling score in Japanese Black cattle using SNP markers of varying densities. The 1791 fatten
We estimated genetic parameters for number born alive (NBA) from the first to the seventh parities in Landrace and Large White pigs using three models. Analyzing 55,160 farrowing records for 12,677 Landrace dams and 43,839 for 10,405 Large White dams, we used a single-trait animal model to estimate the heritability of NBA at each parity and a two-trait animal model and a single-trait random regression model to estimate the genetic correlations between parities. Heritability estimates of NBA at e
Improving reproductive efficiency is required to strengthen the production base of high-quality Wagyu beef in Japan. We developed a deterministic profit function (P) for lifetime carcass production of Japanese Black cows to calculate economic values (EVs) for representative female reproductive and carcass traits. The total calving number per cow was expressed using the age at first calving (AFC) and calving interval (CI). Revenues and costs were calculated from calf market price (CaP) and carcas
We attempted to estimate the additive genetic variance explained by each autosome, using genotype data of 33,657 single nucleotide polymorphism (SNP) markers in 2271 Japanese Black fattened steers. Traits were cold carcass weight, ribeye area, rib thickness, subcutaneous fat thickness, estimated yield percentage, and marbling score. Two mixed linear models were used: One is that (model 1) incorporating a genomic relationship matrix (G matrix) constructed by using all available SNPs, and another
Abstract We estimated genetic parameters in Landrace and Large White pig populations for litter traits at farrowing (total number born, number born alive, number stillborn, total litter weight at birth (LWB), and mean litter weight at birth) and those at weaning (litter size at weaning (LSW), total litter weight at weaning (LWW), mean litter weight at weaning (MWW), and survival rate from farrowing to weaning). We analyzed 65,579 records at farrowing and 6,306 at weaning for Landrace, and 52,557
The metabolic profiles and pharmacokinetics of pemafibrate, a novel selective peroxisome proliferator activated receptor-alpha modulator currently launched as an antidyslipidemic drug, were investigated in vitro using hepatocytes from rats, monkeys and humans and in vivo in rats and monkeys. Hepatocytes from rats, monkeys and humans all biotransformed pemafibrate to its demethylated form (M1). The bioavailabilities of pemafibrate in Sprague-Dawley rats and cynomolgus monkeys were 15% and 87%, re
Pharmacokinetic profiles of pemafibrate with virtual drug and/or disease interactions were assessed by creating a detailed physiologically based pharmacokinetic (PBPK) model.Passive diffusion clearance in liver was experimentally determined as 0.013 mL/min/106 human hepatocytes. <i>In vitro</i> intrinsic clearance values for pemafibrate by cytochromes P450 2C8, 2C9, and 3A4 were 54, 26, and 16 μL/min/mg protein, respectively. Values for the effective permeability and the intrinsic cle
