쿠메 슈오 교수의 연구실은 줄기세포 생물학과 신호전달 메커니즘을 중심으로, 특히 췌장 발달과 β세포 형성의 분자 기전을 연구하고 있습니다. 인산이노시톨 삼인산 수용체와 칼슘 신호전달, NOGGIN을 이용한 배아 췓음세포 유도, Epiplakin1의 발현 역할 등 췍장 형성과 기능 유지에 관여하는 분자 기전을 규명하고 있으며, 당뇨병 치료를 위한 인공 췌장β세포 생성 전략 개발에도 기여하고 있습니다. 특히 인간 induced pluripotent stem 세포를 이용한 xeno-free 배양 시스템 개발과 함께, β세포 생존과 증식을 조절하는 신호 경로를 탐색하는 데 초점을 맞추고 있습니다.
