A new design of the so-called "guided-motion" total knee arthroplasty (TKA) is expected to produce normal-like kinematics. We found characteristic trends where the popularity of meniscus repair increased rapidly at the expense of meniscectomy in Japan during the study period. In the last survey year, the proportion of meniscus repair exceeded that of meniscectomy in those younger than 30 years. Meniscectomy was undertaken most often in adolescents and early old age, while meniscus repair was undertaken most often in adolescents.

The sequence of creating 2 femoral tunnels through accessory medial portal affected the resultant location of the sockets and the rate of the complications. When femoral tunnels are prepared with a transportal technique, PL tunnel first technique seems to be superior to AM first technique regarding anatomic placement. However, PL tunnel first technique accompanies the risk of socket communication.
