This study illustrates the role of the relationship quality perceived by the international public, which is increasingly discussed in public diplomacy research. It leads to the implications for integrated destination marketing of a host country in targeting the international public, where the host country is considered both as a tourism destination and as a place for business and investment. The study proposes a model illustrating the intervention of relationship quality in the way tourism desti
The present study examines the three perceptual factors (cultural, economic, and social) that affect residents’ attitude towards transformation in the search for sustainability. Macao’s Drunken Dragon Festival, China’s intangible cultural heritage, was used as the case. Self-administered surveys were conducted on 378 resident festival participants in 2015 and 692 residents (both participants and non-participants) in 2017. The results show that regardless of previous experiences of participating
The present study explores the role of tourist causal attribution in the relationship between pre-visit loyalty and tourist satisfaction. The study focuses on causal attribution as mediator in the relationship between pre-visit loyalty and tourist satisfaction. Locus, stability, and globality dimensions of attribution are proposed as the consequences of pre-visit loyalty and the antecedents of satisfaction while pre-visit loyalty is also set as the direct antecedent of satisfaction. The results
This study conceptualizes a three-dimensional model of tourist attributional process which explains how tourists account for negative experiences. The three dimensions are locus (internal vs. external), stability (stable vs. unstable), and globality (global vs. specific). Each of them mediates the relationship between negative tourism experience and satisfaction. The model suggests that tourist attribution to internal, unstable, and specific factors leads to higher levels of overall satisfaction
Since the theoretical lens of lifestyle mobilities was introduced, there has been a growing interest in the role of mobility in weakening rigid binaries such as home/away and work/leisure. This article draws on this theoretical perspective to explore how sojourners in Macau blur spatial and temporal binaries in their adaptation to their new and temporary situation. Individual thematic interviews with 17 sojourners were conducted, revealing their choice of lifestyle as regards home/away and work/
The present study proposes a tourist behavioral model by examining the causal linkages among tourists' destination experience, their attitudinal and behavioral loyalties, and their active and passive communicative actions. The study adopts the concept of relationship to frame the attitudinal loyalty construct. Associations among this and other constructs are tested using structural equation modeling with survey data. The study shows significant linkages among the constructs except for the effect
More so than previously, in recent years tourists have been exposed to unexpected adverse situations, such as political instability, caused by the destination. Many aspects of the destination experience do not involve service delivery and product consumption; thus, such an experience needs to be treated uniquely. Acknowledging that the effects of tourists’ inner psychological processes in this context are crucial, this study applies attribution theory to examine how tourists make sense of negati
This qualitative exploratory study focuses on marriage immigrant women and explores the possibility they might contribute to the sustainability of the host country. A sustainable society, the contribution of visiting friends and relatives (VFR) tourism to destination sustainability, information behavior, and fringe stakeholder involvement for sustainable destination management are the focus of this study. Vietnamese marriage immigrant women in South Korea were investigated; the reasons for the i
The present research note proposes the concept of the experiential tourism image , a concept that advances the extant destination image that focuses on the image formed about destination-ingrained attributes. The experiential tourism image advocates a tourist image formed about the tourist holistic experience. It is conceptualized with new knowledge on destination image by additionally considering diverse types of geographic regions where the tourism experience takes place and cocreating it. The
