Suk Ho Byeon 교수의 연구실은 망막세포 생존 메커니즘과 망막 혈관 질환의 병태생리학을 중심으로 연구를 진행하고 있습니다. 특히 비만성 염증 반응과 산화 스트레스에 의한 망막 pigment 상피세포(RPE) 손상에서 VEGF-A의 자가분비 작용이 세포 생존에 기여하는 경로를 규명하며, 나이 관련 황반변성 등 망막 퇴행성 질환의 새로운 치료 전략을 모색하고 있습니다. 또한, 망막 내 유체 누출의 경로와 분포, 실리콘 오일 투여 후 망막 두께 변화 등 영상 기반의 망막 생리학적 변화 분석을 통해 수술적 치료 결과를 정량화하고자 합니다.
