Sun Young Kim 교수의 연구실은 노인 건강과 퇴행성 질환의 생체지표 및 생물학적 기전을 중심으로 연구를 진행하고 있습니다. 주로 체형 지표인 복부 둘레(CC)와 근육량(ASM)이 노인의 신체 기능 및 골다골증 위험과 어떻게 연관되어 있는지 규명하며, 한국 노인 인구를 대상으로 한 생체 영상 및 생화학적 분석을 기반으로 한 정밀의료 기반의 생체지표 개발에 주력하고 있습니다. 또한 전통 약재의 항혈전 작용 메커니즘과 유기합성 반응을 통한 기능성 고리 구조 합성에도 관심을 기울이고 있습니다.

The optimal cut-off values of CC for low MM are 35 cm for males and 33 cm for females. Lower CC based on these cut-off values is related with poor physical function. CC may be also a good indicator of sarcopenia in Korean elderly.
The purpose of this study was to predict osteoporosis risk as decreasing muscle mass and to declare the cut-off value of low muscle mass in an elderly Korean population. Cinnamomum cassia is a well-known traditional medicine for improvement of blood circulation. An extract of this plant showed both platelet anti-aggregation and blood anti-coagulation effects in preliminary testing.
