Taizen Nakase 교수의 연구실은 뇌의 신경보호 메커니즘, 특히 아교세포와 그 간극접합 단백질인 커넥신43(Cx43)의 역할에 초점을 맞추고 있습니다. 뇌경색과 같은 뇌 혈관 질환에서 아교세포가 신경세포를 보호하는 메커니즘을 간극접합을 통해 규명하고 있으며, 이와 관련된 유전자 변형 마우스 모델을 활용한 기전 연구를 진행하고 있습니다. 또한, 미토콘드리아 기능과 자유 라디칼 스트레스 조절을 위한 UCP2 및 UCP5의 신경보호적 역할에 대해서도 연구를 확장하고 있습니다.
