Takeharu Tsuge 교수의 연구실은 생물학적 폴리하이드록시알카노산(PHA) 합성에 핵심적인 효소인 PHA 합성효소(PhaC)의 유전자 변형과 기능 개선을 중심으로 연구를 진행하고 있습니다. 특히, 미생물 내에서 다양한 단량체 조성을 가진 PHA 코폴리머를 정밀하게 제어할 수 있도록 효소의 아미노산 서열을 변형함으로써, 의료용 생분해성 소재 및 환경 친화적 플라스틱의 개발을 목표로 하고 있습니다. 고도로 정제된 유전자 공학적 접근을 통해 PHA의 분자량과 단량체 조성을 제어하는 기술을 확립하고 있습니다.
