CRP elevation is a more reliable indicator of survival after gastric cancer surgery than postoperative complication occurrence. Surgeons should minimize the postoperative inflammatory response to improve prognosis.
Islet transplantation employing DCD can ameliorate severe hypoglycemic episodes, significantly improve HbA1c levels, sustain significant levels of C-peptide, and achieve insulin independence after multiple transplantations. Thus, DCD can be an important resource for islet transplantation if used under strict releasing criteria and in multiple transplantations, particularly in countries where heart-beating donors are not readily available.
Recent improvements in the survival of patients after esophagectomy have led to an increase in the occurrence of gastric tube cancer (GTC). Total resection of the gastric tube with lymphadenectomy is a standard and reliable treatment for GTC, but problems may arise during or after surgery, such as laryngeal nerve injury, reduced selection of organs for reconstruction, and impaired swallowing function. We recently performed a less invasive procedure, subtotal gastrectomy with preservation of the
Recent advances in diagnostic techniques have allowed the diagnosis of gastric cancer (GC) at an early stage. Due to the low incidence of lymph node metastasis and favorable prognosis in early GC, function-preserving surgery which improves postoperative quality of life may be possible. Pylorus-preserving gastrectomy (PPG) is one such function-preserving procedure, which is expected to offer advantages with regards to dumping syndrome, bile reflux gastritis, and the frequency of flatus, although
These findings indicate that the keratocytes are abnormal and inflammation is still present in the corneal stroma in the chronic phase of SJS, OCP and alkali burns.
