In the present study, we aimed to identify multimorbidity patterns in a Japanese population and investigate whether these patterns have differing effects on polypharmacy and dosage frequency. Data was collected on 17 chronic health conditions via nationwide cross-sectional survey of 3,256 adult Japanese residents. Factor analysis was performed to identify multimorbidity patterns, and associations were determined with excessive polypharmacy [concurrent use of ≥ 10 prescription or over-the-counter
We developed JPCAT and examined its validity and reliability in assessing the core principles of primary care in Japan. This tool could be used for health service research in primary care.
We found that better patient experience of primary care was strongly associated with ACP discussion. Our findings reinforce the significance of patient experience in primary care as part of quality end-of-life care.
Social isolation was associated with negative patient experience in elderly primary care patients. Raising awareness regarding patient social networks among primary care providers and targeted interventions for socially isolated elderly patients aimed at improving the experience of primary care, especially regarding longitudinality, comprehensiveness, and community orientation, may be warranted.
Primary care is regarded as a setting that potentially mitigate patient health literacy (HL) related inequalities. However, there is a lack of evidence about influence of patient HL on the patients' perception of quality of primary care. We aimed to examine the association between HL and patient experience of primary care attributes. We conducted a cross-sectional survey, and sent questionnaires to adult residents who were randomly selected from a basic resident register in Yugawara Town, Kanaga
Using an atmospheric metal-organic chemical vapor deposition system, we passivated GaAs with AlN prior to atomic layer deposition of Al2O3. This AlN passivation incorporated nitrogen at the Al2O3/GaAs interface, improving the capacitance-voltage (C–V) characteristics of the resultant metal-oxide-semiconductor capacitors (MOSCAPs). The C–V curves of these devices showed a remarkable reduction in the frequency dispersion of the accumulation capacitance. Using the conductance method at various temp
We developed a concise patient experience scale, which comprises six domains measuring primary care attributes and evaluated its validity and reliability. This scale can be used as a rapid assessment tool reducing the burden of respondents and provide effective information for further quality improvement and practice-based research in the Japanese primary care settings.
This study presents the results of current RCTs on interventions with apps, including an app with an automated psychosocial component for preventing postpartum depression that has been conducted. These apps improved the EPDS score; furthermore, they may prevent postpartum depression.
To investigate the mechanisms regulating hyperoxia-induced intercellular adhesion molecule-1 (ICAM-1) expression, we studied the effects of antioxidants on ICAM-1 expression, and the relationship between ICAM-1 expression and extracellular glutathione levels in human pulmonary artery endothelial cells (HPAEC) and human umbilical vein endothelial cells (HUVEC). Cells were cultured to confluence and exposed to hyperoxia (90% O2) for 48 h with or without various antioxidants, including superoxide d
Our study revealed that multimorbidity patterns have different effects on the clinically relevant decline in HRQoL for 1 year. These findings can be useful in identifying populations at high risk and with poor clinical outcomes among patients with chronic diseases and multimorbidity for efficient resource allocation.
Our study elucidates differences in the strengths and challenges of primary care between hospital-based practices and community-based office practices, with a focus on patient centeredness. Improving community orientation in hospital-based practices and improving accessibility, including out-of-hours care, in community-based office practices may enhance the quality of primary care and promote standardization of care across settings.
