A hollow victory: Hollow capsules of poly(methyl methacrylate) (PMMA) stereocomplex can be fabricated by a combination of the layer-by-layer assembly technique and the silica template method (see scheme; it=isotactic, st=syndiotactic). A hollow nanostructure composed of nonionic multilayers is constructed through van der Waals interactions.
Herein we report the first example of chiral recognition and kinetic resolution of aromatic amine guests using supramolecular nanocapsules assembled from cyclodextrin derivatives in nonpolar media. With these nanocapsules, an extremely high chiral recognition of 1-(1-naphthyl)ethylamine (1) in cyclohexane was achieved, with a binding selectivity of up to 41 for (S)-1 over (R)-1. In addition, kinetic resolution of 1 through enantioselective N-acylation was accomplished with an enantiomeric excess
Partially 2,3-O-methylated amyloses efficiently form inclusion complexes with polytetrahydrofuran and poly(epsilon-caprolactone) by simply mixing them in DMSO-H(2)O (1 : 9) solution, in contrast to the case of the parent amylose in which the corresponding inclusion complexes are only slightly formed.
We found that cyclodextrins (CDs) have a high solubility in 1,1,1,3,3,3-hexafluoro-2-propanol (HFIP). Evaporating HFIP from CD solutions on a glass plate gave crystalline solids composed of channel-type CD assemblies, and electrospinning with an HFIP solution of CDs fabricated CD microfibers.
A channel-type assembly of gamma-cyclodextrin (gamma-CD(channel)) forms organogels in a variety of oils and organic solvents at ambient temperature through the construction of a three-dimensional network of micrometer-sized cubic particles composed of gamma-CD(channel).
6-O-Modified β-cyclodextrins, such as heptakis(6-O-triisopropylsilyl)-β-cyclodextrin (TIPS-β-CD) and heptakis(6-O-tert-butyldimethylsilyl)-β-cyclodextrin (TBDMS-β-CD), formed 2:1 inclusion complexes with pyrene in benzene and cyclohexane with high association constants. The X-ray crystalline structure of the TIPS-β-CD-pyrene complex obtained from the benzene solution showed that one pyrene molecule was incorporated in the form of a sandwich-type complex with two benzene molecules within the cavi
Abstract New amido nonionic cleavable surfactants were synthesized in good yields by the acetalization of glucono‐1,5‐lactone with octanal, 2‐octanone or 2‐undecanone, followed by amidation with monoethanolamine, diethanolamine or morpholine. These compounds possessed good water solubilities. The compounds derived from 2‐octanone showed higher critical micelle concentrations than the compounds from octanal. For the same hydrophobic chain, both the micelle‐forming property and the ability to lowe
