와타루 사토 교수의 연구실은 뇌의 사회인지 기능, 특히 동적인 얼굴 표정 인식과 정서 처리의 신경 기반을 중심으로 연구를 진행하고 있습니다. 정서적 표정이 뇌의 조기 시각 처리에 어떻게 영향을 미치는지, 그리고 자폐 스펙트럼 장애에서 동적 얼굴 표정보다의 인식 장애가 어떻게 뇌 네트워크의 기능적·구조적 이상과 연관되는지 탐구합니다. 또한 주관적인 행복감의 뇌 기초를 규명하고, 얼굴 표정의 유사성과 공감 기반의 정서 공유 메커니즘을 신경과학적으로 분석합니다.

To investigate the hypothesis that early visual processing of stimuli might be boosted by signals of emotionality, we analyzed event related potentials (ERPs) of twelve right-handed normal subjects. In this study, we presented computer‐morphing animations of the facial expressions of six emotions to 43 subjects and asked them to evaluate the naturalness of the rate of change of each expression. Facial expressions that show emotion play an important role in human social interactions. In previous theoretical studies, researchers have suggested that there are universal, prototypical facial expressions specific to basic emotions. However, the results of some empirical studies that tested the production of emotional facial expressions based on particular scenarios only partially supported the theoretical predictions.
