Weon Kim 교수의 연구실은 주로 혈관 내피세포 및 평滑근세포의 염증 반응과 손상에 대한 보호 메커니즘을 규명하며, 특히 항산화 작용과 세포 신호전달 경로 조절을 통한 심혈관 질환 예방에 초점을 맞추고 있습니다. 커큐민, 녹차 추출물, 카르베딜롤, 프로부콜과 같은 천연물질 및 약물의 혈관 보호 효과를 기반으로 한 생물학적 기전 연구를 진행하고 있습니다. 특히 스텐트 내재식 치료에서의 재혈류 폐쇄를 막는 신약 개발 및 세포 기반 치료 전략 개발에도 기여하고 있습니다.

Curcumin, a yellow pigment of turmeric in curry, is reported to interfere with nuclear factor (NF)-kappaB. This study was designed to investigate the underlying pathway of antiinflammation of curcumin on endothelial cells. Human umbilical vein endothelial cells (HUVECs) were stimulated with 10 ng/mL tumor necrosis factor (TNF)-alpha. Curcumin blocked the activation of NF-kappaB by TNF-alpha.
