Until recently, different types of innovation strategy have been introduced in innovation studies. However, their effects on firms’ market performance have been underexplored. To overcome this limitation, we empirically examined the effect of different innovation strategies on firms’ market performance using the panel data for 2496 firms obtained from Korea Innovation Survey (2010). In doing so, we categorise firms depending on whether their products are new to the firm or to the market and whet
This paper reexamines and resolves the long dispute over the source of technological innovation by suggesting an integrated technology-push and demand-pull model. We derive an equilibrium model within the framework of differentiated product analysis and explain the dynamic interaction between these two sources of innovation. Based on the empirical analysis of the global DRAM market, we show that the relative importance of technology-push and demand- pull in technological innovation is described
With the emergence of smartphones, the paradigm of the mobile ecosystem has changed rapidly. In particular, global mobile firms focus on technological competition when jostling for market position in recognition of the strategic need to secure a strong mobile platform. In this paper, we analyse the network structure of technological knowledge flows in mobile ecosystems using US patent citation information. We find that two subsectors, platform providers and application and software providers, ar
Firms in high-technology industries have faced great technological and market uncertainty and volatility in the past few decades. In order to be competitive and sustainable in this environment, firms have been pursuing technological innovation, product differentiation, vertical integration, and alliances, which eventually drive industry convergence, defined as the process of blurring boundaries between previously distinct industries. Although industry convergence has greatly affected industrial
The literature on online product reviews is based on the fundamental premise that reviews impact search costs and also affect consumers’ confidence in their purchase decisions. However, this proposition has not been proven in the literature. To this end, we conducted an experiment using an eye-tracking machine to measure the impact of online editorial and customer reviews on consumer’s information search costs and on decision confidence. Search costs in this study are defined in terms of time co
We have a conventional wisdom that risk-seeking behaviours are related to commercially oriented entrepreneurs. For this reason, most studies have focused on the context of commercial entrepreneurship, and thus we do not know the risk propensity of social entrepreneurs. Using the PSM method, contrary to our wisdom, we find that social entrepreneurs tend to more have about 15% risk-seeking propensity than commercial entrepreneurs.
