우영장 교수의 연구실은 주로 의료용 생체재료의 감염 예방과 조직 재생을 위한 혁신적 표면 기술 개발에 중점을 두고 있습니다. 특히 낙엽식물의 미끄러운 표면을 모방한 '유압성 의료 implant 표면(Lubricated Orthopedic Implant Surface, LOIS)' 기술을 통해 세균 침투를 효과적으로 차단하고, 면역 회피 기능을 구현하는 데 성공했습니다. 또한, 피부 상처 치유 과정의 정밀 모니터링을 위해 mRNA 나노센서를 활용한 비침습적 분자 생체마커 검출 기술을 개발하여, 치유 상태를 실시간으로 평가할 수 있는 새로운 진단 전략을 제시하고 있습니다. 이와 더불어 파킨슨병 환자에서 비타민 D 결핍과 골다공로시스 간의 연관성 등 신경퇴행성질환과 대사 상태의 상호작용에 대한 연구도 진행 중입니다.

Bacterial infection and infection-induced immune response have been a life-threatening risk for patients having orthopedic implant surgeries. Being underweight and diabetes mellitus were associated with an increased risk of PD incidence, and effect of being underweight was more prominent in those with diabetes mellitus, with a dose-response relationship existing according to diabetes mellitus status.
