Paclitaxel, 5-FU, and cisplatin was an active combination regimen in the treatment of advanced gastric carcinoma. The toxicity of this regimen was tolerable. Based on these findings, this combination regimen could be an attractive treatment in the preoperative setting.
Adenocarcinomas of the pancreas and biliary tract are highly malignant neoplasms, which are found in the advanced stage. Chemotherapy commonly plays a palliative role in the treatment of pancreatic and biliary tract cancers. 5-Fluorouracil (5-FU) is the most widely studied single agent; the response rate of 5-FU is only 20%. Recently, some reports presented interesting results, in which 5-FU, modulated with levofolinic acid (leucovorin), was active in patients with colorectal cancer. In relation
In many patients with liver metastases from islet cell or carcinoid tumor, vascular occlusion therapy results in prolonged control of symptoms, biochemical response, and also tumor regression. Chemotherapy agents were added to evaluate safety and efficacy. Thirty patients with liver metastases from either carcinoid tumor or islet cell carcinoma underwent sequential vascular occlusion therapy combined with che-motherapeutic agents. In patients with carcinoid tumor, a combination of cisplatin (150
PRF lesioning of DRG showed significant pain relief compared with the conventional treatments in patients with intractable PHN. In order to elucidate the mode of action of PRF, further research is needed and the optimal electrical parameters of PRF have to be determined.
KRG could be safely combined with mFOLFOX-6 chemotherapy in colorectal cancer patients, and reduced CRF compared with placebo.
The expression of CA IX and Ki-67 may be useful for predicting prognosis in squamous cell carcinoma of the tongue.
Serum VEGF per platelet count could be a feasible prognostic indicator during the follow-up of patients with HCC.
