The present study was designed to evaluate the safety and potential of adipose tissue-derived stem cells (ASCs) for the treatment of Crohn's fistula. In this dose escalation study, patients were sequentially enrolled into three dosing groups with at least three patients per group. The first three patients (group 1) were given 1 × 10(7) cells/ml. After 4 weeks, this dose was deemed safe, and so an additional four patients (group 2) were given 2 × 10(7) cells/ml. Four weeks later, after which this
A previous phase II clinical trial of adipose-derived stem cell (ASC) therapy for fistulae associated with Crohn's disease, a devastating condition with a high recurrence rate, demonstrated safety and therapeutic potential with a 1-year sustained response. In the present study, 41 of the 43 phase II trial patients were followed for an additional year, regardless of response in the initial year. At 24 months, complete healing was observed in 21 of 26 patients (80.8%) in modified per protocol anal
With a combination of methods, localization of tumors for laparoscopic surgery did not seem very different from that during open surgery. Preoperative endoscopic tattooing is a safe, highly effective method for localization. In the case of tattoo failure, intraoperative colonoscopy can be used for accurate localization.
Our results demonstrated that miRNA-17-5p regulates vimentin expression, thereby regulating metastasis of CRC.
Our findings suggest that KRAS mutation could be a molecular target for statins to elicit potent tumor-specific immunity.
Late recurrent colorectal cancer has some characteristics compared with early or intermediate recurrence. Although recurrence at more than five years postoperatively is not common, its possibility should be considered whenever performing follow-up, and surveillance for lung metastasis is recommended after more than five years of surgery.
For restaging patients with rectal cancer after preoperative CCRT, MRI is a useful diagnostic modality to predict both the T and N categories. (18)F-FDG PET/CT is helpful in predicting a pathologic complete response and in finding metastasis after preoperative CCRT.
Single large HCCs do not require a large extent of hepatic resection and the associated increased risk of postoperative liver failure. The long-term survival of patients with a single large HCC is as good as that of patients with a single small HCC. We conclude that hepatic resection is a safe and effective therapy for single large HCCs.
The main cause of death for colorectal cancer (CRC) patients is the development of metastatic lesions at sites distant from the primary tumor. Therefore, it is important to find biomarkers that are related to the metastasis and to study the possible mechanisms. Recent data have shown that soluble attractant molecules called chemokines support the metastasis of certain cancers to certain organs. To identify molecular regulators that are differentially expressed in liver metastasis of CRC, PCR arr
