Abstract The Sindong Group forms the lowermost basin‐fill of the Gyeongsang Basin, the largest Cretaceous nonmarine basin located in southeastern Korea, and comprises the Nakdong, Hasandong, and Jinju Formations with decreasing age. The depositional age of the Sindong Group has not yet been determined well and the reported age ranges from the Valanginian to Albian. Detrital zircons from the Sindong Group have been subjected to U–Pb dating using laser ablation inductively coupled plasma mass spec
ABSTRACT The Dumugol Formation (Lower Ordovician) in the southern part of the Baegunsan syncline, South Korea, contains mixed siliciclastic and carbonate ramp deposits. The ramp sediments were frequently influenced by storm events resulting in tempestites of sandstone‐mudstone couplets, bioclastic grainstones to packstones, flat‐pebble conglomerates, a skeletal lag layer and laminated calcisiltites. All tempestites are characterized by an erosive to sharp base, poor grading and a transitional up
Abstract The geological history of the Korean Paleozoic is recorded in lower and upper Paleozoic strata, mostly distributed in two relatively large sedimentary basins, the Taebaeksan and Pyeongnam basins. The lower Paleozoic sedimentary rocks are exclusively of marine origin, dominated by shallow platform carbonate rocks with minor interbedded siliciclastic rocks. The development of the lower Paleozoic sequence was mostly controlled by eustatic changes, having cyclic sedimentation of various tem
