RS was independently associated with good outcomes without increasing symptomatic intracranial hemorrhage or mortality. RS seemed considered in MT-failed internal carotid artery or middle cerebral artery M1 occlusion.
Improved oral hygiene care was associated with decreased risk of atrial fibrillation and heart failure. Healthier oral hygiene by frequent tooth brushing and professional dental cleaning may reduce risk of atrial fibrillation and heart failure.
Regular oral hygiene behavior was negatively, and infrequent oral hygiene care was positively associated with risk of occurrence for stroke, respectively. Brushing one's teeth three or more times daily may be associated with lower risk of stroke.
Currently, few studies are reported on the composition of microbiota in stroke patients and the association with stroke prognosis. This study investigated the differing microbiota composition in stroke patients and confirmed the association of microbiota composition with poor functional outcome. Between January of 2018 and December of 2019, 198 patients with acute cerebral infarction were included in this study. For the case-control study, age and sex-matched normal healthy subjects (n = 200) we
In COVID-19 infected patients, high TyG index was associated with increased risk for severe complications. TyG index might be useful predictor for the severity of COVID-19 infection.
Insulin resistance is associated with the occurrence of stroke and atherosclerotic disease. However, the relationship between insulin resistance and the prognosis of acute ischemic stroke in non-diabetic patients is unclear. We hypothesized that insulin resistance might affect short-term functional recovery after acute ischemic stroke in non-diabetic patients. Between May 2014 and December 2016, 1377 consecutive patients with acute ischemic stroke were enrolled from a prospectively maintained st
Oral diseases, such as periodontitis and dental caries, can cause systemic inflammation as well as local effects, which is an important contributing factor for obesity. We aimed to investigate the change in body mass index (BMI) according to the presence of periodontitis and oral hygiene indicators. This study enrolled 110,068 participants from the national health screening cohort in Korea from 2009-2010 who underwent an oral health checkup. As oral hygiene indicators, the presence of periodonti
Dyslipidemia is a major risk factor for stroke, following hypertension, diabetes, and smoking, and is an important risk factor for the prevention and treatment of coronary artery disease and peripheral vascular disease, including stroke. Recent guidelines recommend considering low-density lipoprotein cholesterol (LDL-C)-lowering therapies, such as statins (preferably), ezetimibe, or proprotein convertase subtilisin/kexin type 9 (PCSK9) inhibitors to prevent the occurrence or recurrence of stroke
Our study demonstrated that FLI, which represents NAFLD, was positively associated with an increased risk of severe complications from COVID-19. FLI might be used as a prognostic marker for the severity of COVID-19.
Oral diseases or poor oral hygiene have close connections with systemic inflammatory reaction, which is one of major mechanism in the development of chronic kidney disease (CKD). We conducted a research assuming that better oral hygiene care would be negatively related with the risk of developing new-onset CKD.From 2003 to 2004, a total of 158,495 participants from the Korean national health insurance data sharing service which provides health screening data including variables as age, sex, vasc
Periodontitis and rheumatoid arthritis (RA) are inflammatory diseases that share many similarities. We aimed to investigate the associations of periodontitis and oral hygiene status and behaviors with RA in a nationwide general population cohort. Participants from the National Health Screening cohort database of Korea who underwent oral health screening by dentists between 2003 and 2004 were included. The occurrence of RA was analyzed according to the presence of periodontitis, oral health exami
This study suggests that an interarm blood pressure difference of ≥10 mm Hg could be a useful indicator for the risks of END, poor functional outcome, and mortality.
Gamma-glutamyl transferase (GGT) is a biomarker of inflammation, and is known to be associated with stroke and atrial fibrillation. Venous thromboembolism (VT), a not uncommon thrombotic disorder, shares similar mechanisms with other thrombotic disorders including these stroke and atrial fibrillation. Given these associations, we intended to investigate the potential association between variability in GGT and VT. The study included data from the National Health Insurance Service-Health Screening
Our study showed IASBD and IADBD were diversely associated with cerebral atherosclerosis. In noncardioembolic stroke patients with IASBD ≥10 or IADBD ≥10, the possibility of accompanying cerebral atherosclerosis should be considered.
