우치다 요시아키 교수의 연구실은 암 환자의 면역 기능 회복과 항암 면역요법을 핵심으로 하는 면역항암 연구를 수행하고 있습니다. 특히 OK-432(스테프토코커스 A형 박테리아 유도체)를 활용한 피하 및 흉막내 주입을 통한 세포계면역 반응 조절, 자연살해세포(NK 세포) 기능 회복, 자가 종양세포에 대한 세포독성 작용 증강에 초점을 맞추고 있습니다. 또한, 면역세포의 기능 조절 메커니즘과 면역 억제 미세환경의 해소 전략에 대한 기초 연구도 병행하고 있습니다.

Omnidirectional laser action in W/O/W emulsion with CLC shells is demonstrated. The emulsion, in which the helical axis of the CLC phase is normal to the surface, is successfully fabricated by using a microfluidic device. The whole emulsion system with dispersed core-shell droplets with a CLC shell can serve as a flexible omnidirectional resonator for dye lasers.
Twelve patients with carcinomatous pleural effusions were treated with single intrapleural (i.pl.) administration of OK432 on day 0 and the effects of i.pl. OK432 on natural killer (NK) cell activity were followed on day 7. Two patients showed no clinical evidence of therapeutic benefit from i.pl. OK432. Natural killer (NK) cell activity was examined in breast cancer patients before and after surgery, and the cells involved in the postoperative depression of cytotoxicity were characterized. NK activity against K562 target cells determined in 4-hour 51Cr release assay of blood lymphocytes from preoperative patients was comparable to that of normal donors. Human lymphocytes and their subpopulations from the peripheral blood and pleural effusions of cancer patients were tested for cytotoxicity against fresh tumor cells isolated from carcinomatous pleural effusions of the same patients. Lymphocytes from peripheral blood (PBL) and from pleural effusions (PEL) of cancer patients were tested for cytotoxicity against tumor cells freshly isolated from carcinomatous pleural effusion of the same patient. Fifty patients with primary localized lung cancer were tested at the time of surgery for the ability of their lymphocytes to kill autologous, freshly isolated tumor cells, and the assay was evaluated for prognostic significance. An anisotropic and inhomogeneous magnetic interaction (the average spin-spin interaction constant (-)J > 0) was observed in the various liquid crystalline (LC) phases of racemic and nonracemic all-organic radical LC compounds 1a and 1b. Bone marrow natural killer (NK) cell activity was studied in patients with multiple myeloma. Here we show the first observation of an unusual intermolecular magnetic interaction in the liquid-crystalline (LC) state of an all-organic radical compound at 73 °C on water; the magnetic interaction actually allows the LC droplet on water to be attracted by a weak permanent magnet, whereas the crystalline phase did not respond to the magnet.
