Since solid particles suspended in the fluid can cause wear in centrifugal pumps, intensive attention has been focused on the numerical prediction for the wear of flow parts in centrifugal pumps. However, most numerical studies have focused on only one wear model and a sphere particle model. The impact of particle shape on the wear of flow parts in centrifugal pumps is under-studied, particularly considering abrasive and impact wear simultaneously. In this work, the Computational Fluid Dynamics
Since various foreign bodies can cause clogging and wear in single-channel pumps, considerable attention has been focused on the numerical study of solid-liquid flows in the single-channel pump. However, conventional numerical simulation cannot responsibly assess the significant effect of the particle material properties, inter-particle collision, and size on the pump. In consideration of the particle features and behaviors, the Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD)-Discrete Element Method (DEM) co
Ferrofluid is a colloidal liquid in which magnetic nanoparticles such as Fe3O4 are dispersed in a nonconductive solution, and the average diameter of the nanoparticles is 10 nm. When a magnetic field is applied, the ferrofluid generates magnetization, which changes the physical properties of the fluid itself. In this study, characteristics of the thermomagnetic convection of ferrofluid (Fe3O4) by the permanent magnet in the enclosure channel were studi
The screw compressor in the early stage of development is generally known as the oil-injection type. However, escalating environmental problems and advances in electronic components have spurred continuous R & D to minimize the oil content in compressed air. The oil-free twin-screw compressor is continuously compressed by inner volumetric change between rotors and casing. For this reason, in order to predict the overall performance of the screw compressor at the early stage of the design pro
Gas turbine failure diagnosis is performed in this work based on seven types of tag data consisting of a total of 7976 data. The data consist of about 7000 normal data and less than 500 abnormal data. While normal data are easy to extract, failure data are difficult to extract. So, this study mainly is composed of normal data and a one-class support vector machine (OC-SVM) is used here, which has an advantage in classification accuracy performance. To advance the classification performance, four
Free-burning arcs where the work piece acts as an anode are frequently used for a number of industrial applications. Our investigation was concerned with developing a capability to model free-burning high-intensity argon arcs and enhancing the accuracy of numerical results according to a comparative study of turbulence models. For the arc modeling involved complicated interactions between the flow and electromagnetic fields, we modified the Navier-Stokes equations to take into account the radiat
Recently, global energy consumption has increased due to industrial development, resulting in increasing demand for various energy sources. Aside from the increased demand for renewable energy resources, the demand for fossil fuels is also on the rise. Accordingly, the demand for resource development in the deep sea is also increasing. Various systems are required to efficiently develop resources in the deep sea. A study on an in-line type oil–water separator is needed to compensate for the disa
