A simple colorimetric technique for the detection of small concentrations of aqueous heavy metal ions, including toxic metals such as lead, cadmium, and mercury, is described. Functionalized gold nanoparticles are aggregated in solution in the presence of divalent metal ions by an ion-templated chelation process; this causes an easily measurable change in the absorption spectrum of the particles. The aggregation also enhances the hyper-Rayleigh scattering (HRS) response from the nanoparticle sol
Abstract Laser‐induced graphene (LIG) is a newly emerging 3D porous material produced when irradiating a laser beam on certain carbon materials. LIG exhibits high porosity, excellent electrical conductivity, and good mechanical flexibility. Predesigned LIG patterns can be directly fabricated on diverse carbon materials with controllable microstructure, surface property, electrical conductivity, chemical composition, and heteroatom doping. This selective, low‐cost, chemical‐free, and maskless pat
Abstract Fast, simple, cost‐efficient, eco‐friendly, and design‐flexible patterning of high‐quality graphene from abundant natural resources is of immense interest for the mass production of next‐generation graphene‐based green electronics. Most electronic components have been manufactured by repetitive photolithography processes involving a large number of masks, photoresists, and toxic etchants; resulting in slow, complex, expensive, less‐flexible, and often corrosive electronics manufacturing
Human voice recognition systems (VRSs) are a prerequisite for voice-controlled human-machine interfaces (HMIs). In order to avoid interference from unexpected background noises, skin-attachable VRSs are proposed to directly detect physiological mechanoacoustic signals based on the vibrations of vocal cords. However, the sensitivity and response time of existing VRSs are bottlenecks for efficient HMIs. In addition, water-based contaminants in our daily lives, such as skin moisture and raindrops,
Abstract The development of green flexible micro‐supercapacitors (MSCs) is one of the biggest challenges in future wearable electronics. Flexible MSCs are mainly produced from non‐biodegradable synthetic polymers, resulting in massive electronic waste. Moreover, complex multi‐step fabrication increases their production cost. Here, the direct fabrication of highly conductive, intrinsically flexible, and green microelectrodes from naturally fallen leaves in ambient air using femtosecond laser puls
The increasing demand for wearable optoelectronics in biomedicine, prosthetics, and soft robotics calls for innovative and transformative technologies that permit facile fabrication of compact and flexible photodetectors with high performance. Herein, by developing a single-step selective laser writing strategy that can finely tailor material properties through incident photon density control and lead to the formation of hierarchical hybrid nanocomposites, e.g., reduced graphene oxide (rGO)-zinc
Abstract The increasing demands of portable, flexible, and wearable electronics have greatly stimulated the development of miniaturized supercapacitors (MSCs) with features of high flexibility, low weight, long lifespan, and safety. The techniques which can effectively incorporate functional nanomaterials into flexible electrodes are extremely important for future wide‐spread applications of MSCs, and thus are identified as the research focus in the field. Herein, this review focuses on recent a
Personal wearable devices are considered important in advanced healthcare, military, and sports applications. Among them, e-textiles are the best candidates because of their intrinsic conformability without any additional device installation. However, e-textile manufacturing to date has a high process complexity and low design flexibility. Here, we report the direct laser writing of e-textiles by converting raw Kevlar textiles to electrically conductive laser-induced graphene (LIG) via femtoseco
Dielectrophoresis has received considerable attention for separating nanotubes according to electronic types. Here we examine the effects of surface conductivity of semiconducting single walled carbon nanotubes (SWNT), induced by ionic surfactants, on the sign of dielectrophoretic force. The crossover frequency of semiconducting SWNT increases rapidly as the conductivity ratio between the particle and medium increases, leading to an incomplete separation of ionic surfactant suspended SWNT at an
3D ordered porous structures of MoxC are prepared with different Mo to C ratios and tested for two possible promising applications: hydrogen evolution reaction (HER) through water splitting and lithium ion batteries (LIBs). Mo2C and MoC with 3D periodic ordered structures are prepared with a similar process but different precursors. The 3D ordered porous MoC exhibits excellent cycling stability and rate performance as an anode material for LIBs. A discharge capacity of 450.
