Abstract Utilization of carbon-neutral biomass became increasingly important due to a desperate need for carbon reduction in the issue of global warming in light of replacing petroleum-based materials. We used lignin, which was an abundant, low cost, and non-food based biomass, for the development of all biomass-based films and composites through reactive compatibilization with poly (lactic-acid) (PLA). Using a facile and practical route, the hydrophilic hydroxyl groups of lignin were acetylated
In implantable bioelectronics, which aim for semipermanent use of devices, biosafe energy sources and packaging materials to protect devices are essential elements. However, research so far has been conducted in a direction where they cannot coexist. Here, the development of capacitance-matched triboelectric implants driven is reported by ultrasound under 500 mW cm-2 safe intensity and realize a battery-free, miniatured, and wireless neurostimulator with full titanium (Ti) packaging.
A hydride reorientation can deteriorate the mechanical ductility of spent fuel cladding and make it more susceptible to failure. Therefore, an evaluation of the reorientation under dry storage conditions and their effects on the cladding ductility are critical issues in terms of the regulation criteria. In this work, biaxial stress was applied to Zircaloy-4 cladding by pressurizing Ar gas. The study showed that the hydride reorientation can occur at around 60 and 80 MPa at 400 and 300 °C, respec
A chemically conjugated nanodiamond (ND)/MoS2 nanocomposite was synthesized with amine-functionalized MoS2 and acyl chloride-coordinated ND. The chemical structure and morphology of the nanocomposite were characterized to examine the dispersion of MoS2 on the ND platform. The results revealed that the degree of dispersion was enhanced with increasing ratio of MoS2 nanosheets to ND. Moreover, the nanosheets consisted of several molecular interlayers tha
Sodium secondary batteries have gained much attention as alternative power sources to replace lithium secondary batteries. However, some technical issues must be solved to ensure their success. Here, a highly safe and cost-effective Na-based dual-ion battery system employing self-formulated CuCl cathode material starting from a mixture of Cu and NaCl in conjunction with a nonflammable NaAlCl4 ·2SO2 inorganic liquid electrolyte is demonstrated. It is found that CuCl is spont
Injection-limited contacts in many of electronic devices such as light-emitting diodes (LEDs) and field effect transistors (FETs) are not easily avoided. We demonstrate that charge injection in the injection-limited contact is determined by charge transport properties as well as the charge injection energy barrier due to vacuum energy level alignment. Interestingly, injection-limited contact properties were observed at 5 nm diameter lead sulfide (PbS) quantum dot (QD)/Au contacts for which carri
