The attachment of cells to titanium surfaces is an important phenomenon in the area of clinical implant dentistry. A major consideration in designing implants has been to produce surfaces that promote desirable responses in the cells and tissues. To achieve these requirements, the titanium implant surface can be modified in various ways. This research was designed to elucidate the relationship between surface roughness (Ra) and contact angle (theta) of various engineered titanium surfaces of com
During the last few decades, considerable research on diabetic wound healing strategies has been performed, but complete diabetic wound healing remains an unsolved problem, which constitutes an enormous biomedical burden. Herein, hyaluronic acid (HA)/poly(lactic-co-glycolic acid, PLGA) core/shell fiber matrices loaded with epigallocatechin-3-O-gallate (EGCG) (HA/PLGA-E) are fabricated by coaxial electrospinning. HA/PLGA-E core/shell fiber matrices are composed of randomly-oriented sub-micrometer
The outcomes of the present study indicate that the edentulous women undergo morphological changes of the mandible influenced by the dental status more than men.
The purpose of this review is to examine various assessment methods in order to compare the accuracy between the virtually planned and clinically achieved implant positions. In this review, comparison methods using pre- and post-operative computed topography (CT) data and digital impressions for definitive prosthesis will be described. The method for the displacement and strain for quantification of the error will also be explored. The difference between the planned and the actual implant placem
The quantitative biomechanical evaluations clearly demonstrated that primary implant stability seems to be influenced by the presence of a cortical plate and total surface area of the implant fixture appears to be the decisive determinant for ISQ value.
Based on the findings of our computed tomographic image analysis, the position of mental foramen on panoramic radiographs was affected by its horizontal course of inferior alveolar nerve. The significant horizontal direction change of the course was found after the canal passing below the mandibular first molar regardless of the antero-posterior position of mental foramen.
The purpose of this study was to demonstrate the time-efficiency and the clinical effectiveness of chairside-fabricated lithium disilicate single crowns by digital impressions compared to the conventional method. Thirteen patients requiring a single crown on the maxillary or mandibular premolar or first molar were assigned as study subjects. The impressions were obtained using the conventional method and two digital methods with intraoral scanners: AEGIS.PO (Digital Dentistry Solution, Seoul, Ko
Lower survival rates were observed for the implant placed in the anterior maxilla. The purpose of this study was to investigate the influence of different implant lengths on the stress distribution around osseointegrated implants under a static loading condition in the anterior maxilla using a three-dimensional finite element analysis. The diameter of 4.0 mm external type implants of different lengths (8.5 mm, 10.0 mm, 11.5 mm, 13.0 mm, 15.0 mm) was used in this study. The anterior maxilla was a
The aim of this study was to examine the settling of abutments into implants and the removal torque value under static loading. Five different implant-abutment connections were selected (Ext: external butt joint + two-piece abutment; Int-H2: internal hexagon + two-piece abutment; Int-H1: internal hexagon + one-piece abutment; Int-O2: internal octagon + two-piece abutment; Int-O1: internal octagon + one-piece abutment). Ten implant-abutment assemblies were loaded vertically downward with a 700 N
The advent of intraoral scanning methods has caused a paradigm shift in dentistry. However, despite their many advantages, intraoral scanners cannot accurately recognize the metallic surfaces of prothesis. Therefore, this experiment was designed to verify the effect of scanning-aid agents on the scanning accuracy using metallic reference models. Three different types of metallic reference models (inlay, onlay, and bridge) were specially designed and produced using a milling machine to simulate i
The purpose of this study was to compare the histologic and radiologic differences between single- and double-layer collagen membrane techniques in flapless ridge preservation. The mandibular fourth premolar and first molar of four beagle dogs were used in the experiment. Mesial roots of the teeth were extracted and root canal treatment was performed at the distal roots. Ridge preservation was performed at the extraction sites using synthetic bone graft material. A single layer (control group) o
In this paper, we compare the quality of images reconstructed by a conventional delayed-sum (DS) algorithm and radiation pattern-based DS algorithm. In order to evaluate the quality of images, we apply the target-to-clutter ratio (TCR), which is commonly used in synthetic aperture radar (SAR) image assessment. The radiation pattern-based DS algorithm enhances the TCR of the image by focusing the target signals and preventing contamination of the radar scene. We first consider synthetic data obta
The aim of the present study was to evaluate correlations between bone density and implant primary stability, considering various determinants such as age, gender, and geometry of implants (design, diameter). Bone density of edentulous posterior maxillae was assessed by computed tomography (CT)-derived Hounsfield units, and implant primary stability values were measured with insertion torque and resonance frequency analysis (RFA). A total of 60 implants in 30 partially edentulous patients were e
The study was designed to evaluate the effects of a liquid-type scanning-aid material on the accuracy and time efficiency of intraoral digital impressions compared to those of two different types of powder scanning-aid material and the powder-free scanning method. Three reference models (inlay, onlay, and bridge) were fabricated by a 3D printer and scanned with a model scanner to make the reference datasets. Four experimental groups (application of ScanCure, VITA, IP, and no treatment) were esta
