With successful extraction of growth factors and bone morphogenic proteins (BMPs) from mammalian teeth, many researchers have supported development of a bone substitute using tooth-derived substances. Some studies have also expanded the potential use of teeth as a carrier for growth factors and stem cells. A broad overview of the published findings with regard to tooth-derived regenerative tissue engineering technique is outlined. Considering more than 100 published papers, our team has develope
While most patients undergo orthognathic surgery for aesthetic purposes, aesthetic improvements are most often followed by postoperative functional complications. Therefore, patients must carefully decide whether their purpose of undergoing orthognathic surgery lies on the aesthetic side or the functional side. There is a wide variety of complications associated with orthognathic surgery. There should be a clear distinction between malpractice and complications. Complications can be resolved wit
The results indicated that in the ridge preservation using collagen sponge and xenograft, xenograft prevents the horizontal resorption of the alveolar ridge, and the upper collagen sponge blocks the infiltration of soft tissues to the lower area, and thus it has the advantage of the enhancement of bone fill.
This study was performed to identify the calcium phosphate minerals, chemical element and Ca/P ratio and to examine the surface structure of autogenous tooth bone grafting material (AutoBT) which recently developed and applied clinically as a bone graft materials. The analytical results showed that AutoBT is composed of low-crystalline hydroxyapatite (HA) and possibly other calcium phosphate minerals, which is similar to the minerals of human bone tissues. And the dental crown portion was compos
Dual-thread shape provided better mechanical stability with high removal torque on the broad range than other shapes. However, dual-thread shape may need improvement for reducing the long insertion time to decrease the stress to the surrounding tissue.
Guided bone regeneration (GBR) is a surgical procedure that utilizes bone grafts with barrier membranes to reconstruct small defects around dental implants. This procedure is commonly deployed on dehiscence or fenestration defects ≥2 mm, and mixing with autogenous bone is recommended on larger defects. Tension-free primary closure is a critical factor to prevent wound dehiscence, which is critical cause of GBR failure. A barrier membrane should be rigidly fixed without mobility. If the barrier i
