Findings from large epidemiologic studies indicate that there is a link between smoking and extrinsic skin ageing. We previously reported that matrix metalloproteinases (MMPs) mediate connective tissue damage in skin exposed to tobacco smoke extracts. Tobacco smoke contains more than 3800 constituents, including numerous water-insoluble polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) that trigger aryl hydrocarbon receptor (AhR) signalling pathways. To analyse the molecular mechanisms involved in tobacco
Freeze-dried microfibrillated cellulose (MFC) was directly dissolved in 8.0% w/w lithium chloride/N,N-dimethylacetamide (LiCl/DMAc), and MFC/LiCl/DMAc solutions with accurate MFC concentrations were prepared. The different MFC solutions were diluted to 1.0% and 0.5% w/v LiCl/DMAc, and subjected to size-exclusion chromatography with multiangle laser-light scattering and refractive index analyses (SEC/MALLS/RI), and off-line RI analysis to determine their refractive index increments (dn/dc). Chiti
Wood holocelluloses, softwood α-cellulose, bleached kraft pulps, and bacterial cellulose were dissolved in 8% (w/w) lithium chloride/N,N-dimethylacetamide (LiCl/DMAc) after ethylenediamine pretreatment and subsequent solvent exchange to DMAc. The obtained solutions were diluted to 1% (w/v) LiCl/DMAc and analyzed using size-exclusion chromatography and multi-angle laser-light scattering (SEC-MALLS). The holocelluloses and kraft pulps showed bimodal molecular-mass distributions because of the pres
Abstract The molar masses and molar mass distributions of three commercial regenerated cellulose samples, viscose rayon, Tencel, and Bemliese (or cuprammonium nonwoven), have been determined by dissolution in 8% (w/w) lithium chloride/ N , N -dimethylacetamide (LiCl/DMAc) and subsequent size-exclusion chromatography with multi-angle laser-light scattering detection (SEC/MALLS). Before dissolution in LiCl/DMAc, the regenerated cellulose samples were pretreated by the following three methods: (1)
