Yun-Chul Hong 교수의 연구실은 환경오염 요인, 특히 미세먼지, 화학물질, 기상 조건 등이 인간 건강에 미치는 영향을 중심으로 연구를 진행하고 있습니다. 특히 대기오염물질(PM, PAHs, DEHP 등)이 뇌졸중, 산화 스트레스, 대사질환 등에 미치는 급성 및 만성 영향을 시간적·공간적 분석을 바탕으로 규명하고 있습니다. 고령자, 어린이, 당뇨병 환자 등 취약군의 민감도를 고려한 환경독소의 건강 영향 평가에 초점을 맞추고 있습니다.

The relationship between stroke and air pollution has not been adequately studied. We conducted a time-series study to examine the evidence of an association between air pollutants and stroke over 4 years (January 1995-December 1998) in Seoul, Korea. We used a generalized additive model to regress daily stroke death counts for each pollutant, controlling for seasonal and long-term trends and meteorologic influences, such as temperature, relative humidity, and barometric pressure. These findings indicate that air pollutants are significantly associated with ischemic stroke mortality, which suggests an acute pathogenetic process in the cerebrovascular system induced by air pollution.
These results suggest that stroke occurrence rises with decreasing temperature, and that even a moderate decrease in temperature can increase the risk of ischemic stroke. Susceptible people should take steps to protect themselves from cold, especially in the winter.
Exposure to PM air pollution and PAHs was associated with oxidative stress in schoolchildren.
Our study results suggest that exposure to DEHP in the elderly population increases IR, which is related with oxidative stress, and that participants with a history of DM and females are more susceptible to DEHP exposure.
