히데키 이지마 교수의 연구실은 장내 면역학 및 복합성 면역반응의 분자 기전을 중심으로, 장염성 질환인 염증성 장질환(IBD)의 발병 메커니즘을 규명하고 있습니다. 특히, 점막면역계(Mucosal Immune System)와 T세포의 기능 조절, 특히 Th1/Th2 반응 균형, CEACAM1 분자의 면역조절 기능, 그리고 IgA 항체의 생성 메커니즘을 중심으로 기초 면역학적 연구를 수행하고 있습니다. 또한, IBD의 병태생리학적 차이를 반영한 진단 마커(G0F/G2F)의 규명과 정서적 요인의 병변 영향에 대한 임상적 연관성 연구도 진행 중입니다.

The common mucosal immune system (CMIS) consists of an integrated cross-communication pathway of lymphoid tissues made up of inductive and effector sites for host protection against pathogenic microorganisms. Carcinoembryonic antigen-related cellular adhesion molecule 1 (CEACAM1) is a cell surface molecule that has been proposed to negatively regulate T cell function. We have shown that CEACAM1 is associated with specific regulation of T helper cell (Th)1 pathways, T-bet-mediated Th1 cytokine signaling, and Th1-mediated immunopathology in vivo. T cell receptor alpha chain-deficient (TCR-alpha(-/-)) mice are known to spontaneously develop inflammatory bowel disease (IBD). The colitis that develops in these mice is associated with increased numbers of T helper cell (Th)2-type CD4(+)TCR-betabeta (CD4(+)betabeta) T cells producing predominantly interleukin (IL)-4. G0F/G2F is a potentially effective diagnostic marker of disease activity in both CD and UC, and of the clinical course in UC. A pathophysiologic difference between CD and UC was also demonstrated.
