The present study shows that GB polyps >/=10 mm in size in patients aged >/=57 years are the independent factors predicting malignancy of the GB.
Initial CA 19-9, American Joint Committee on Cancer stage, and treatment modality were independent prognostic factors of OS, and the patients who received chemotherapy or CCRT showed better survival than those who received supportive care only.
Protein expression of MEN1 and DAXX/ATRX can be prognostic markers for PanNETs. Further investigation in genetic alterations of PanNETs may give us insights understanding the behavior of PanNETs.
The aberrantly methylated NPTX2 gene may help to distinguish between chronic pancreatitis and pancreatic cancer with conventional diagnostic tools and could become a valuable diagnostic marker.
Endoscopic ultrasonography-guided ethanol ablation therapy seems to be a safe treatment modality. However, it was only effective in 11% of IPMNs. Therefore, the clinical application should be very limited for certain patients who could not tolerate the surgical treatment.
Low-dose prophylactic treatment with ulinastatin immediately after ERCP did not show a beneficial influence on the incidence of post-ERCP pancreatitis and hyperamylasemia in high-risk patients.
Magnetic resonance imaging as an additional diagnostic modality to MDCT increased the accuracy, sensitivity, and specificity, as well in terms of predicting neoplastic cysts.
Post-treatment CA 19-9 and normalized post-operative CA 19-9 (R0 and R1 resected tumors) were independent factors associated with OS and DFS, however, initial CA 19-9 level was not statistically significant in multivariate analysis.
Hernia operation could be done safely in CTP class A and B with low rate of recurrences, and there was no definitive increase in the operative risk in class C. In addition, refractory ascites did not increase operative risk and recurrence rate. Therefore, surgical repair might be recommended even in patients with refractory ascites and poor hepatic function to prevent life-threatening complications or severe pain.
The quantitative analysis of NPTX2 hypermethylation may play a role in making highly sensitive and less invasive diagnosis of pancreatic cancer. Therefore, NPTX2 hypermethylation could be a promising molecular diagnostic marker.
Solid pseudopapillary tumors are low-grade tumors that have a generally good prognosis. However, the clinical development and malignancy potential of SPTs are neither fully understood nor predictable, even with histologically benign tumors. Further investigations in tumor biology, along with long-term patient follow-up, may provide insight into the disease process and clinical development of SPTs.
Circulating tumor cells (CTCs) are useful biomarkers of many solid tumors, but are infrequently detected in early stage pancreatic ductal adenocarcinomas (PDACs). The first drainage of pancreatic venous blood flow come to portal vein and pass through the liver, and they finally go out for peripheral blood. We thought that comparing CTCs from portal vein and peripheral blood could enable us to understand the clinical meaning of CTCs from each different site in PDACs. Therefore, we aimed to determ
Patients with locally advanced pancreatic cancer who received gemcitabine chemotherapy or 5-FU-based CCRT showed better survival than those who received supportive care only. Gemcitabine chemotherapy and 5-FU-based CCRT showed similar survival advantages.
The predictive model for neoplastic potential of GBP may support clinical decisions before cholecystectomy.
