타나카 토모히로 교수의 연구실은 수문학, 홍수 위험 평가, 기후변화 영향 분석을 중심으로 한 수자원 및 환경 시스템 모델링을 전문으로 합니다. 특히 분포형 수문모델과 기후 시나리오 기반의 대규모 시뮬레이션을 활용해 산악지역 강수유출량 예측 및 동시 홍수 위험 분석을 수행합니다. 또한, 수문-유압 연계 모델링과 원격 탐사 데이터를 융합한 정밀한 유역 모의 기법을 개발하고 있습니다. 최근에는 기후변화에 따른 홍수 위험 곡선 작성 및 정책적 의사결정 지원을 위한 빅데이터 기반 지오스페이셜 분석 기법도 도입하고 있습니다.
