A series of push-pull donor-pi-conjugated dipicolinic acid ligands and related tris-dipicolinate europium and lutetium complexes have been prepared. The ligands present broad absorption and emission transitions in the visible spectral range unambiguously assigned to charge-transfer transitions (CT) by means of time-dependent density functional theory calculations. The photophysical properties (absorption, emission, luminescence quantum yield, and lifetime) of the corresponding europium complexes
Cleanly separated by two photons: The design and photophysical characterization of a new highly stable macrocyclic ytterbium complex featuring a two-photon antenna ligand is described (see picture). The biphotonic sensitization of the near-infrared ytterbium(III) luminescence and the conception of an unconventional near-infrared biphotonic microscope allow performing in-depth imaging of thick tissues.
Near-infrared (NIR) organic light-emitting devices have aroused increasing interest because of their potential applications such as information-secured displays, photodynamic therapy, and optical telecommunication. While thermally activated delayed fluorescent (TADF) emitters have been used in a variety of high-performance organic light-emitting diodes (OLEDs) emitting in the visible spectral range, efficient NIR TADF materials have been rarely reported. Herein, we designed and synthesized a nov
The multistep synthesis of an extensive series of push-pull donor-pi-conjugated dipicolinic acid ligands is described. The charge transfer character of the ligand can be tuned by changing the donor group (CH 2R, OR, SR, or NR 2) or the nature of the conjugated backbone (phenyl, phenylethynyl, naphtylethynyl, bis(phenylethynyl), or chalcone). The photophysical properties of related D 3 symmetric europium complexes (absorption and luminescence) were measured. Experiments using two-photon sensitize
A hemicurcuminoid boron difluoride complex is used as an emitter in organic light-emitting diodes, showing far red/near-infrared electroluminescence with an external quantum efficiency as high as 2.1%. This dye blended in CBP thin films shows amplified spontaneous emission with a threshold of 22 μJ cm-2 at 750 nm, making this compound attractive for organic semiconductor lasers operating in the near-infrared region.
The synthesis of boron difluoride complexes of a series of curcuminoid derivatives containing various donor end groups is described. Time-dependent (TD)-DFT calculations confirm the charge-transfer character of the second lowest-energy transition band and ascribe the lowest energy band to a "cyanine-like" transition. Photophysical studies reveal that tuning the donor strength of the end groups allows covering a broad spectral range, from the visible to the NIR region, of the UV-visible absorptio
Abstract This article describes a series of nine complexes of boron difluoride with 2′‐hydroxychacone derivatives. These dyes were synthesized very simply and exhibited intense NIR emission in the solid state. Complexation with boron was shown to impart very strong donor–acceptor character into the excited state of these dyes, which further shifted their emission towards the NIR region (up to 855 nm for dye 5 b , which contained the strongly donating triphenylamine group). Strikingly, these opti
The linear and non-linear photophysical properties of tris-dipicolinate europium and terbium complexes (absorption, emission, lifetime, luminescence induced by two-photon absorption) are studied in the crystalline state as well as in protein derivative crystals and compared to those in solution. Upon laser irradiation at 532 nm, luminescence of terbium is induced by a two-photon antenna effect, whereas luminescence of europium results from one-photon absorption in forbidden f-f transitions. Two-photon excitation of curcuminoid borondifluoride nanoparticles in water results in rather efficient luminescence in the near infrared region due to a high two-photon cross-section.
The use of 11-aminoundecanoic acid as a synthetic building-block allows the systematic preparation of (oligo)amide organogelators-including chiral ones-which display remarkable gelation properties in organic solvents and water.
Thermally activated delayed fluorescence (TADF) based on through-space donor and acceptor interactions constitute a recent and promising approach to develop efficient TADF emitters. Novel TADF isomers using a dithia[3.3]-paracyclophane building block as a versatile 3D platform to promote through-space interactions are presented. Such a 3D platform allows to bring together the D and A units into close proximity and to probe the effect of their orientation, contact site and distance on their TADF
The synthesis, crystal structure, solution stability, and photophysical properties of an aryl group bridging two 1-hydroxypyridin-2-one units complexed to Eu(III) are reported. The results show that this backbone unit increases the rigidity of the ensuing complex, and also the conjugation of the ligand. As a result of the latter, the singlet absorption energy is decreased, along with the energy of the lowest excited triplet state. The resulting efficiency of sensitization for the Eu(III) ion is
