Atsutomo Nakamura教授の研究室では、酸化物半導体やペロフスカイト系材料を対象に、微小スケールでの不純度や不完全性が材料の力学的性質に与える影響を、ナノインデンテーションや第一原理計算を組み合わせた先進的な実験的手法で解明しています。特に、結晶内の不履歴(dislocation)の動きとその制御が、材料の延性や機能的特性に与える影響に注目しており、ナノスケールでの塑性変形のメカニズムを解明しています。また、光励起状態下での不履歴行動の制御(photoindentation)や、不純物の選択的配列によるナノワイヤーの周期的形成など、次世代の機能性材料設計に資する基盤技術の確立を目指しています。
