Professor Baek-Il Kim's research lab specializes in preventive and restorative dentistry with a strong focus on oral health promotion through advanced materials and microbiological interventions. The lab investigates the role of nano-hydroxyapatite and other biomaterials in preventing dental erosion and enhancing tooth whitening, while also exploring the use of light-activated therapies and photosensitizers to modulate the oral microbiome. A key research direction involves the clinical application of diagnostic technologies such as quantitative light-induced fluorescence (QLF) to detect early signs of dental disease and assess microbial community changes. The lab integrates clinical, biochemical, and molecular approaches to improve both oral and systemic health outcomes.
