Professor Chang Mo Moon's research lab specializes in gastrointestinal oncology and inflammatory bowel diseases, with a focus on cancer stem cells, colorectal cancer progression, and the molecular mechanisms underlying colorectal neoplasia. The lab investigates the chemopreventive effects of nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) on cancer stem cells and explores the roles of key signaling pathways such as NOTCH/HES1 and PPARG in tumorigenesis. Additionally, the lab contributes to clinical research on early detection, prognosis, and diagnostic challenges in rectal neuroendocrine tumors and Crohn’s disease, integrating molecular genetics with clinical outcomes. Their work also includes the application of advanced imaging techniques like (18)FDG-PET in cholangiocarcinoma staging and the identification of genetic susceptibility loci in Asian populations.

Cancer stem cells (CSCs) play a pivotal role in cancer relapse or metastasis.
