Deog Young Kim

Professor Deog Young Kim's research lab specializes in neuromodulation and neurorehabilitation following neurological injuries, particularly stroke and traumatic brain injury. The lab focuses on developing and evaluating non-invasive brain stimulation techniques—such as transcranial direct current stimulation (tDCS) and intermittent theta burst stimulation (iTBS)—to improve motor function, reduce spasticity, and enhance recovery. A key emphasis is on translating neurophysiological assessments into clinically relevant, quantitative measures of motor control and muscle tone, using advanced technologies like virtual reality and biomechanical/electromyographic analysis. The lab also investigates the neurochemical mechanisms underlying cognitive and motor recovery, including cholinergic modulation in brain injury.
