Professor Dong Hoe Kim's research lab specializes in advanced materials for renewable energy applications, with a primary focus on perovskite-based optoelectronic devices and nanostructured materials for energy conversion and storage. The lab pioneers the development of high-efficiency, stable perovskite solar cells—particularly wide-bandgap and all-perovskite tandem architectures—through innovative defect passivation, anion engineering, and novel film growth techniques. Additionally, the lab explores functional oxide and heterostructured nanomaterials, such as SnO₂-In₂O₃ and TiO₂-CoO₂ systems, for applications in lithium-ion batteries and spintronic devices. Their work emphasizes the correlation between nanostructure control, defect engineering, and device performance.

All-perovskite-based polycrystalline thin-film tandem solar cells have the potential to deliver efficiencies of >30%. However, the performance of all-perovskite-based tandem devices has been limited by the lack of high-efficiency, low-band gap tin-lead (Sn-Pb) mixed-perovskite solar cells (PSCs). We found that the addition of guanidinium thiocyanate (GuaSCN) resulted in marked improvements in the structural and optoelectronic properties of Sn-Pb mixed, low-band gap (~1.25 electron volt) perovski
Maximizing the power conversion efficiency (PCE) of perovskite/silicon tandem solar cells that can exceed the Shockley-Queisser single-cell limit requires a high-performing, stable perovskite top cell with a wide bandgap. We developed a stable perovskite solar cell with a bandgap of ~1.7 electron volts that retained more than 80% of its initial PCE of 20.7% after 1000 hours of continuous illumination. Anion engineering of phenethylammonium-based two-dimensional (2D) additives was critical for co
Novel SnO(2)-In(2)O(3) heterostructured nanowires were produced via a thermal evaporation method, and their possible nucleation/growth mechanism is proposed. We found that the electronic conductivity of the individual SnO(2)-In(2)O(3) nanowires was 2 orders of magnitude better than that of the pure SnO(2) nanowires, due to the formation of Sn-doped In(2)O(3) caused by the incorporation of Sn into the In(2)O(3) lattice during the nucleation and growth of the In(2)O(3) shell nanostructures. This p
Anatase Ti0.96Co0.04O2 films were grown epitaxially on SrTiO3 (001) substrates by using pulsed laser deposition with in-situ reflection high-energy electron diffraction. The oxygen partial pressure, PO2, during the growth was systematically varied. As PO2 decreased, the growth behavior was changed from a two-dimensional layer-by-layer-like growth to a three-dimensional island-like one, which resulted in an increase in the saturation magnetization. These structural and magnetic changes were expla
Metal halide perovskite solar cells (PSCs) have become the most promising new-generation solar cell technology. To date, perovskites also represent the only polycrystalline thin-film absorber technology that has enabled >20% efficiency for wide-bandgap solar cells, making wide-bandgap PSCs uniquely positioned to enable high-efficiency and low-cost tandem solar cell technologies by coupling wide-bandgap perovskites with low-bandgap absorbers. In this Focus Review, we highlight recent research pro
Organic-inorganic perovskites with intriguing optical and electrical properties have attracted significant research interests due to their excellent performance in optoelectronic devices. Recent efforts on preparing uniform and large-grain polycrystalline perovskite films have led to enhanced carrier lifetime up to several microseconds. However, the mobility and trap densities of polycrystalline perovskite films are still significantly behind their single-crystal counterparts. Here, a facile top
In the search for more temperature‐stable materials, herein, we report on the microwave dielectric properties and trends of the rare‐earth niobate series (RENbO 4 ), with the main emphasis being placed on LaNbO 4 . LaNbO 4 has excellent microwave dielectric properties, especially an anomalous small positive temperature coefficient of resonant frequency of 9 ppm/°C. We present the phase transformation and ferroelastic domain configuration of RENbO 4 studied using in situ X‐ray diffraction and hig
Given that the highest certified conversion efficiency of the organic-inorganic perovskite solar cell (PSC) already exceeds 22 %, which is even higher than that of the polycrystalline silicon solar cell, the significance of new scalable processes that can be utilized for preparing large-area devices and their commercialization is rapidly increasing. From this perspective, the electrodeposition method is one of the most suitable processes for preparing large-area devices because it is an already
Flexible perovskite solar cells (f-PSCs) have attracted increasing attention for a variety of applications because of their desirable form factor and improved durability. However, the f-PSC fabrication process has not been optimized, resulting in their uneven efficiency. We report a van der Waals stacking (vdWS) process that yields uniform and highly crystalline perovskite films on flexible substrates by uniform heat transfer during the perovskite annealing process. In addition, the surface and
