Health screening is an important component of health promotion programs, and countries have promoted general health screening targeting the prevention and early management of common chronic diseases. In Korea, a General Health Screening Program (GHSP) began with workers in the 1950s and continuously expanded its target population, and currently includes the adult population. The main target diseases are cerebroand cardiovascular diseases, including hypertension, diabetes mellitus, dyslipidemia,
Most patients and family caregivers valued and expected family involvement in TDM. However, there is little explicit agreement in regard to which party in the dyad should take decisional leadership and who should play a supporting role.
Lower indices of continuity of care in patients with newly diagnosed hypertension, diabetes, and hypercholesterolemia were associated with higher all-cause and cardiovascular mortality, cardiovascular events, and health care costs. Health care systems should be designed to support long-term trusting relationships between patients and physicians.
Female reproductive factors are independent risk factors for dementia incidence, with higher risk associated with shorter lifetime endogenous estrogen exposure.
High FIB-4 is a highly predictive risk factor for HCC incidence among Korean HBsAg carriers. FIB-4 is a promising, easily applicable, and cost-effective clinical tool in identifying a subpopulation of HBsAg carriers who are at heightened risk. Our study needs to be replicated in larger future studies on various ethnic groups; nonetheless, our study suggests that FIB-4 may play a valuable role in HCC screening among HBsAg carriers.
Anemia is an independent risk factor for dementia incidence, with a marked increase of risk associated with severe anemia.
Smoking cessation, but not reduction, was associated with reduced CVD risk. Our study emphasizes the importance of sustained quitting in terms of CVD risk reduction.
In this cohort study of a Korean population, decreased risk of dementia was associated with maintaining mild to moderate alcohol consumption, reducing alcohol consumption from a heavy to a moderate level, and the initiation of mild alcohol consumption, suggesting that the threshold of alcohol consumption for dementia risk reduction is low.
This study examined how patients with cancer estimate caregiver burden (CB) and the association between their underestimation of CB and their caregivers' self-ratings of their quality of life (CQOLC-K; Korean version of the Caregiver Quality of Life Index-Cancer), depression and anxiety (Korean version of the Hospital Anxiety and Depression Scale). Participants consisted of 990 patient-caregiver dyads recruited from a nationwide cross-sectional survey conducted in South Korea. Medical baseline d
Results of this study showed that increased alcohol consumption was associated with higher risks for alcohol-related and all cancers, whereas sustained quitting and reduced drinking were associated with lower risks of alcohol-related and all cancers. Alcohol cessation and reduction should be reinforced for the prevention of cancer.
The CNAT-C appears to be a valid and reliable measure to assess comprehensive and multidimensional needs in caregivers of cancer patients.
Purpose Using the linked administrative database in Korea, we investigated (1) whether cervical cancer screening participation differed by the presence of varying degrees and types of disability; (2) trends in the cervical cancer screening rate relative to disabilities over time; and (3) factors associated with cervical cancer screening. Methods We linked national disability registration data with national cancer screening program data. Age-standardized participation rates were analyzed for each
