Professor Dong-Soo Kim's research lab specializes in biomedical engineering and geotechnical systems, focusing on low-current measurement technologies for biomedical applications and the mechanical behavior of foundation systems under dynamic loads. The lab investigates noise optimization in electronic circuits for sensitive biological signal detection and explores innovative foundation designs—such as piled rafts and rocking foundations—to enhance structural resilience in seismic zones. Research also extends to pharmacological mechanisms, particularly the psychoneuroimmunological effects of modafinil and the regulation of vascular signaling pathways involving PDE1A1 and cGMP in nitrate tolerance. These interdisciplinary efforts bridge electronics, biomedicine, and civil engineering to address clinical and infrastructural challenges.

Induction of PDE1A1 in nitrate-tolerant vessels may be one mechanism by which NO/cGMP-mediated vasodilation is desensitized and Ca(2+)-mediated vasoconstriction is supersensitized. Inhibiting PDE1A1 expression and/or activity could be a novel therapeutic approach to limit nitrate tolerance.
In this paper, we report on the noise analysis of low current measurement systems for biomedical applications and their fundamental limits. We analyzed resistive feedback, capacitive feedback and current amplifier circuits for low current measurement systems. In this article, site response analyses for 124 sites collected in Korea were performed to evaluate earthquake ground motions in regions of shallow bedrock in Korea.
