The average amino acid identity (AAI) is an index of pairwise genomic relatedness, and multiple studies have proposed its application in prokaryotic taxonomy and related disciplines. AAI demonstrates better resolution in elucidating taxonomic structure beyond the species rank when compared with average nucleotide identity (ANI), which is a standard criterion in species delineation. However, an efficient and easy-to-use computational tool for AAI calculation in large-scale taxonomic studies is no
A temperature-sensitive mutant, sec34-2, is defective in the late stages of endoplasmic reticulum (ER)-to-Golgi transport. A high-copy suppressor screen that uses the sec34-2 mutant has resulted in the identification of the SEC34 structural gene and a novel gene called GRP1. GRP1 encodes a previously unidentified hydrophilic yeast protein related to the mammalian Golgi protein golgin-160. Although GRP1 is not essential for growth, the grp1Delta mutation displays synthetic lethal interactions wit
In phylogenomics the evolutionary relationship of organisms is studied by their genomic information. A common approach to phylogenomics is to extract related genes from each organism, build a multiple sequence alignment and then reconstruct evolution relations through a phylogenetic tree. Often a set of highly conserved genes occurring in single-copy, called core genes, are used for this analysis, as they allow efficient automation within a taxonomic clade. Here we introduce the Universal Fungal
This paper presents an Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC) and Collision Avoidance (CA) system for vehicle autonomous driving. The control scheme is designed to improve drivers' comfort during multi-vehicle driving situations and to completely avoid rear-end collision using severe braking and lane change maneuver. In order to create such an application, the proposed system consists of a longitudinal control strategy for multi-vehicle ACC with severe braking, a lateral control strategy for lane change,
This paper presents an control strategy for high-speed autonomous vehicles as an active safety procedure. Safe trajectories are generated using the modified steer field method, in which the simplified dynamics of the vehicle are used to predict the state of the vehicle over the look-ahead horizon. To compensate for the dissimilarity between the simplified model and the actual vehicle, a separate controller is designed to track the generated trajectory. The longitudinal dynamics of the vehicle ar
Eukaryotic organisms have developed a variety of mechanisms to regulate translation post-transcriptionally, including but not limited to the use of miRNA silencing in many species. One method of post-transcriptional regulation is through miRNAs that bind to the 3' UTRs to regulate mRNA abundance and influence protein expression. Therefore, the diversity of mRNA 3' UTRs mediating miRNA binding sites influence miRNA-mediated regulation. Alternative polyadenylation, by shortening mRNA isoforms, inc
Abstract Evolutionary adaptations to high altitude in Tibetans, Ethiopians, and Andean populations of South America have shown that Tibetans and Ethiopians have normal hemoglobin %, while most of Aymara and Quechua of the Andean highlands are polycythemic. Whole genome sequencing (WGS) in Quechua identified enriched SENP1 and ANP32D genes correlating with polycythemia (Zhou et al, Am J Hum Genet. 2013 Sep 5; 93(3): 452-462) but these genes were neither enriched nor segregated with polycythemia i
We announce the draft genome sequence of the type strain Lactobacillus malefermentans KCTC 3548 (2,003,922 bp, with a G+C content of 41.1%), which is one of the most prevalent lactic acid bacteria present during the manufacturing process of beer; the genome consists of 172 large contigs (>100 bp in size). All of the contigs were assembled by using Newbler Assembler 2.3 (454 Life Science).

We announce the draft genome sequence of the type strain Lactobacillus mali KCTC 3596 (2,652,969 bp, with a G+C content of 36.0%), which is one of the most prevalent lactic acid bacteria present during the manufacturing process of apple juice. The genome consists of 122 large contigs (>100 bp). All of the contigs were assembled by Newbler Assembler 2.3 (454 Life Science).
<div class="section abstract"><div class="htmlview paragraph">In contrast to highway, there are some sections not well maintained in urban roads. In these sections, there may be faint lane marks or static obstacles due to construction or some other reasons. Therefore, an automated vehicle following system such as traffic jam assistant should consider these sections to guarantee the safety of the system. In order to achieve this purpose, a model predictive control (MPC) scheme has bee
