Multi-segregated columnar structures provide a geometrically ideal scheme for ambipolar organic semiconductors, but are not easy to design. A set of novel materials with dyad and triad architectures based on 2 different discotic cores is reported and the conditions of emergence of such complex structures are investigated. The designed molecules associate together electron-donor triphenylene cores (D) and perylene or naphthalene diimides as acceptor moieties (A), both entities being linked via al
We present the rational design of an organic cage combining an electron-donating (D) triazatruxene and electron-accepting (A) triphenyl triazine connected by three electronically inert pillars. This controlled architecture leads to a precise spatial separation and cofacial alignment of the D and A motifs. Such an architecture induces an efficient intramolecular through-space charge transfer (TSCT), providing a small singlet–triplet energy difference (ΔEST) of 0.049 eV, and thus gives rise to a t
We measured the charge carrier mobilities for two isomers of fluorenone-based liquid crystalline organic semiconductors from their isotropic down to crystalline states through one or two mesophases. Improved charge transport properties of melt-processed crystalline films were obtained for the isomer exhibiting a highly ordered mesophase below its disordered smectic phase.
The thermotropic polymorphism of a series of guanidinium alkanesulfonates (6 < or = n < or = 18) was investigated by optical microscopy and differential scanning calorimetry. Hydrogen bonding was analyzed by infrared spectroscopy. Molecular volumes were measured by dilatometry. The structure of the crystal, smectic A, and ordered smectic phases observed were studied by X-ray diffraction and utilized to prove that the supramolecular arrangement of the molecules in the crystal survives in the smec
Abstract Exciton‐polaritons, in which the electronic state of an excited organic molecule and a photonic state are strongly coupled, can form a Bose–Einstein condensate (BEC) at room temperature. However, so far, the reported thresholds of organic polariton BECs under optical excitation are as high as P th = 11–500 μJ cm –2 . One route toward lowering the condensation threshold is to increase the Rabi energy by aligning the molecular transition dipole moments. In this report, it is demonstrated
The synthesis of the first mesogenic donor-acceptor polyoxometalate (POM)-based hybrid is herein described. The structural and electronic properties of the hybrid compound were evaluated through combination of small- and wide-angle X-ray scattering, optical microscopy, electrochemistry and photoluminescence. In the solid state, the compound behaves as a birefringent solid, displaying a lamellar organization in which double-layers of POMs and bis(thiophene)thienothiophene organic donors alternate
Abstract 2D organic–inorganic perovskites are an emerging class of materials with great potential for optoelectronics since a wide variety of large functional chromophores can be regularly incorporated. Among this new type of materials, hybrid perovskite systems incorporating strong electron acceptor molecules are considered as a promising approach to designing a new type of functional 2D perovskites for optoelectronics. In this work, a rare example of organic–inorganic 2D perovskite incorporati
Abstract While metal‐organic frameworks (MOFs) and covalent organic frameworks (COFs) have been widely investigated as porous conductive materials, the research on the electrical properties of HOF materials has been limited. Moreover, the electrical conductivity of HOF materials is typically several orders of magnitude lower than that of MOFs and COFs. In this work, a HOF material based on naphthalene diimide is designed and achieved a remarkable electrical conductivity of 2.9 × 10 −2 S cm −1 af
Herein, we report the first example of chiral donor-acceptor cage DA-2 displaying efficient circularly polarized thermally activated delayed fluorescence (CP-TADF) with |<i>g</i>lum| values up to 2.1 × 10-3 and PLQY of 32%. A small Δ<i>E</i>ST of 0.051 eV and quasi-parallel (<i>θ</i> = 6°) transition electric and magnetic dipole moments were realized from the through-space charge transfer interaction between the parallelly aligned donor and acceptor in DA-2.
