Genta Ito教授の研究室は、パーキンソン病の発症に関与するリシンリッチリピートキナーゼ2(LRRK2)の機能解明を柱としており、特にLRRK2のキナーゼ活性とGTP結合能の分子機構、ならびにその標的となるRabキナーゼとしてのリン酸化制御機構に注力しています。LRRK2が細胞内小胞動態を調節するメカニズムの解明を通じて、神経変性疾患の病態解明に貢献しています。また、LRRK2欠損マウスにおけるラムエラー体の異常やRabタンパク質の変化を解析し、細胞内膜小胞系の恒常性維持におけるLRRK2の役割を解明しています。
