Mn/Pb and Mn/Ni mixed oxide were prepared at ambient temperature by reduction of with Mn, Pb, and Ni salts. This low-temperature approach provides amorphous structure of the active material. The specific capacitance of pure was estimated to be 166 F/g and increased to 210 and 185 F/g for Mn/Ni and Mn/Pb oxides, respectively. The carbon loading was optimized at 20 wt %. Based on a single electrode, the Mn/Ni mixed oxide showed a high rate capability of 3.12 Wh/kg at constant power discharge of 1
A novel method for preparing nitrogen-doped graphite felts as positive electrodes in vanadium redox flow batteries was developed and studied. These materials were synthesized by directly coating a thin polypyrrole layer on the graphite felt surface followed by subsequent carbonization in the presence of Co (NGF-Co).
A pseudo two-dimensional model is developed for the general application of supercapacitors consisting of an oxide/carbon composite electrode. The model takes into account the diffusion of protons in the oxide particle by employing the method of superposition. system is modeled as a specific example. From the simulation data, it is found that the oxide particle size and proton diffusion coefficient have an enormous effect on the performance at high discharge rate due to the limitation of proton t
New enzymatic catalysts prepared using physical entrapment and chemical bonding were used as anodic catalysts to enhance the performance of enzymatic biofuel cells (EBCs). For estimating the physical entrapment effect, the best glucose oxidase (GOx) concentration immobilized on polyethyleneimine (PEI) and carbon nanotube (CNT) (GOx/PEI/CNT) was determined, while for inspecting the chemical bonding effect, terephthalaldehyde (TPA) and glutaraldehyde (GA) crosslinkers were employed. According to t
In this study, an alumina sol assisted pretreatment method for porous metal supports was investigated for a highly selective Pd composite membrane for ammonia decomposition. Alumina sol made of boehmite was applied to an yttria-stabilized zirconia (YSZ) filled porous Inconel support. Additionally, a vacuum-assisted, two-step electroless plating of Pd drastically increased the hydrogen selectivity. The hydrogen permeation flux and selectivity (H2/N2) measured at 723 K and a transmembrane pressure
A method based on pulse electrodeposition technique was developed for preparation of membrane electrode assemblies (MEAs). In this approach, platinum is deposited directly on the surface of the carbon electrode. The method ensures most of the platinum to be in close contact with the membrane. Using this method it is possible to increase the Pt/C ratio up to 75 wt % near the surface of the electrode resulting in a 5 μm thick catalyst layer. The MEA prepared by pulse electrodeposition exhibits a c
The use of solid electrolytes provides a technical solution to address the safety issues of lithium-ion batteries and enables a bipolar design of high-voltage and high-energy battery modules. The bipolar design avoids unnecessary components and parts for packaging and electrical connection; therefore, it facilitates an increase in the volumetric energy density of the battery, while enabling easy build-up of total output voltage. Herein, the design and construction of a multilayered, bipolar-type
