Professor Hye-Ryun Kang's research lab focuses on the molecular mechanisms underlying pulmonary fibrosis, tissue remodeling, and immune-mediated lung diseases. The lab investigates key signaling pathways involving transforming growth factor-beta (TGF-β), semaphorin 7A, and apoptosis regulators such as Bax, with an emphasis on how these molecules contribute to fibrotic responses, myofibroblast activation, and alveolar structural changes. A central theme is the interplay between fibrosis, cell death, and immune modulation in chronic lung disorders, including interstitial lung diseases and asthma.
Figures are computed from collected data and may differ slightly.
Fibrosis, apoptosis, and the exaggerated production of transforming growth factor (TGF)-beta(1) are juxtaposed in a variety of pulmonary diseases including the interstitial lung diseases and asthma. In these disorders, the relationships between these responses are not well defined. In addition, the apoptosis pathways that contribute to these responses and the mechanism(s) of their contribution have not been described. We hypothesized that BH3 domain-only protein-induced apoptosis plays an import
Semaphorin (SEMA) 7A regulates neuronal and immune function. In these studies, we tested the hypothesis that SEMA 7A is also a critical regulator of tissue remodeling. These studies demonstrate that SEMA 7A and its receptors, plexin C1 and beta1 integrins, are stimulated by transforming growth factor (TGF)-beta(1) in the murine lung. They also demonstrate that SEMA 7A plays a critical role in TGF-beta(1)-induced fibrosis, myofibroblast hyperplasia, alveolar remodeling, and apoptosis. TGF-beta(1)
Overall, our data suggest that SJS, and TEN are infrequent but constantly arise throughout the years.
RCM induced anaphylactic shock is related to multiple exposures to RCM and most patients showed skin test positivity to RCM.
The prevalence of respiratory symptoms increased in children exposed to parental smoking including SHS and THS. To avoid the risk of respiratory and allergic disease by environmental tobacco smoke, absolute smoking cessation by parents is strongly recommended.
The incidence of cephalosporin-induced anaphylaxis differed according to individual drugs and side-chain structure. Screening IDT showed no clinical efficacy at a population level.
The incidence trend of anaphylaxis in Asia is not well investigated. The aim of this study is to estimate the entire population-based incidence of anaphylaxis in Korea using a nationwide administrative database.Data over a 7-year period (2008-2014) was obtained from the Korean National Health Insurance (NHI) claims database which covers 97.9% of the entire Korean population. Using diagnosis codes from the International Classification of Diseases-10 for anaphylaxis (T78.0, T78.2, T80.5, and T88.6
Platinum compounds are the most commonly reported causative agents of in-hospital drug-induced anaphylaxis. Older age ≥70 years and drugs such as iodinated contrast media and aminosteroid NMBA are related with high risk of anaphylactic shock.
