This study was conducted to directly compare the effects of pulsatile and nonpulsatile blood flow in the extracorporeal circulation upon renal tissue perfusion by using a tissue perfusion measurement system. A total cardiopulmonary bypass circuit was constructed to accommodate twelve Yorkshire swine, weighing 20 approximately 30 kg. Animals were randomly assigned to group 1 (n = 6, nonpulsatile centrifugal pump) or group 2 (n = 6, pulsatile T-PLS pump). A tissue perfusion measurement probe (Q-Fl
NIR fluorescence imaging could safely identify pulmonary neoplasms after the systemic injection of ICG. In addition, low-dose ICG is sufficient for NIR fluorescence imaging of pulmonary neoplasms. However, because the passive accumulation of ICG could not be used to discriminate tumours with inflammation, tumour-targeted fluorescence should be developed to solve this problem in the future.
The results of this study suggest that lung-specific inhalation delivery of ICG is feasible and may be useful for the intraoperative visualization of lung tumor margin in clinical practice.
A fluorescent iodized emulsion prepared by mixing ICG with lipiodol enabled accurate localization and resection of pulmonary nodules.
Current demonstrations of brain-machine interfaces (BMIs) have shown the potential for controlling neuroprostheses under pure motion control. For interaction with objects, however, pure motion control lacks the information required for versatile manipulation. This paper investigates the idea of applying impedance control in a BMI system. An extraction algorithm incorporating a musculoskeletal arm model was developed for this purpose. The new algorithm, called the muscle activation method (MAM),
Single-port thoracoscopic surgery is safe and a feasible option for major lung resection in lung malignancy and this approach following experiences of two-port approach may yield similar oncologic results to those of conventional multi-port approach during thoracoscopic lobectomy.
The human arm exhibits outstanding manipulability in executing various tasks by taking advantage of its intrinsic compliance, force sensation, and tactile contact clues. By examining human strategy in controlling arm impedance, we may be able to understand underlying human motor control and develop control methods for dexterous robotic manipulation. This paper presents a novel method for estimating multijoint stiffness by using electromyogram (EMG) and an artificial neural network model. The art
Actual pulmonary function compared with predicted postoperative values improved over time over 1 y after lobectomy. However, this improvement was not observed in subjects with COPD or in those who underwent thoracotomy or received postoperative adjuvant chemotherapy.
Theranostic nanoparticles can deliver therapeutic agents as well as diverse imaging agents to tumors. The enhanced permeation and retention (EPR) effect is regarded as a crucial mechanism for the tumor-targeted delivery of nanoparticles. Although a large number of studies of the EPR effect of theranostic nanoparticles have been performed, the effect of the change in the body size of the host on the EPR effect is not fully understood. In this regard, comparative research is needed on the behavior
