GABA/l-theanine mixture has a positive synergistic effect on sleep quality and duration as compared to the GABA or l-theanine alone. The increase in GABA receptor and GluN1 expression is attributed to the potential neuromodulatory properties of GABA/l-theanine combination, which seems to affect sleep behaviour.
The anti-stress and anti-fatigue effects of a hot water extract of fermented rice bran (FRB) were investigated with Saccharomyces cerevisae IFO 2346 on rats or mice. Oral administration (1 g/kg/day) of a hot water extract of FRB inhibited major changes in weight of the adrenal, thymus, spleen and thyroid, showing the anti-stress effect. The objective of this study was to evaluate the anti-aging potential and skin safety of red ginseng (RG) and fermented red ginseng (FRG) using Lactobacillus brevis for use as cosmetic ingredients. Concentrations of uronic acid, polyphenols, and flavonoids, and antioxidant activities were greater in FRG compared to RG. The contents of total ginsenosides were not significantly different. The effects of temperature and pH on color degradation kinetics of the mulberry fruit extract were investigated. The absorbance at 510 nm was decreased with increase of heating time, but that at 420 nm was increased with the increase of heating time at 100 degrees C. The change of the browning index (A510/A420) was increased with increase of pH and was lower at pH 2.0 than that at pH 5.0. Abstract This study presented the antioxidant activities of the Korean traditional lotus liquor (Yunyupju) made from lotus blossom and leaves. The antioxidant activities are dose-dependent and reached a plateau (about 80% inhibition) when the concentration of lotus liquor exceeded 25 μg in a modified linoleic acid peroxidation induced by haemoglobin.
